Help with Tilt Column!

Hey guys! I need some advice and figured you guys would be the best source! If you guys were me...would you go with a tilt wheel in my '69? Im 6ft 240+ and it seemed a little cramped before I started working on the interior. The steering wheel was basically an inch from the top of my thighs! I have the bench out and the dash stripped putting in my new heater controls...radio...dash...pad...etc... figured this would be the best time to change to a tilt. anyone on the board sell them? Ive tried junkyards and all i can find are basically junk! Are the tilts really that much better????? HELP!

Re: Help with Tilt Column!

Find someone near you with a truck that has a tilt and try it out for yourself.

I would think that you would like it as if you go with the van tilt, you can with a little mods, push that column all the way forward. If you look at the picture of my truck, you can see that my cone is almost touching the dask bezel. I think I shortened the column almost 4 inches. My 6' friend sat in my truck and really liked the room. If you use a stock steering wheel, it will still be a tight fit with it tilted down...

Re: Help with Tilt Column!

I have my tilt pushed forward 1 1/2 to 2 inches, a smaller wheel, and i can't even imagine driving one without it. I test drove a stock 68 a few weeks ago with no tilt/stock wheel, and it felt totally retarded.
I am 6 foot 200 pounds
Even when i was lighter, a tilt was pretty much manditory for me.

Go with the tilt. You will be able to put the wheel just about anywhere you want. You might also want to try a smaller diameter steering wheel.

Re: Help with Tilt Column!

Tim's van tilt would be a great way to go. About 1/2 the price of a stock tilt, and 99% of people would never realize it was from a van. It's an easy mod.

Re: Help with Tilt Column!

How hard is it to make the van tilt work? I am somewhat mechanically inclined but definitely not a pro!
