Drop spindles

Looking for a set of 2 or 2 1/2 inch drop spindles for a 87 c-10 with 1 1/4 rotor. Planning on running 7" (I think thats what they are) rallys and dont want clearance issues. What brand spindles, what kind of price and where is the best place to get them?

I just bought some 1" spindles for the 87 front crossmember Iput in my 66 and they were from Early Classic Enterprises. 199.00 plus shipping! Your going to want new aftermarket brake hoses- the original 87 hoses didn't fit without tweaking the metal tubes on the hoses.
The 73 front suspension I put in the 67 accepted the stock brake hoses with no problem on the western spindles that I bought from ECE 5 Years ago.
ECE has the best price I could find, I have always gotten great service from them.

shade67, 1" drop spindles?? I have only seen/heard of 2.5 and 3".

onetonk5, Rallys came in 7 and 8 inch widths. You can run 2.5 or 3 inch spindles with the narrower Rally wheels, if you want to run 8 inch Rallys, then you will need 2.5 inch spindles. You can also trim your LCA if you want to go down with a 3 inch spindle and run the 8 inch Rally...I have done this along with many many other people.

By 1" spindles I was referring to the thickness of the rotor not the amount of drop- I should have been a little more clear that the drop was indeed 2.5 and the light duty brake 1" rotor.

7" rallies will give you no problems. 8" is where you run into rubbin' problems. My truck runs 7s in front 8s in rear...

ECE or Belltech. Gonna be about $250 either way. Any cheaper and you get no-name cheap casting junk that will break.

I think I saw somewhere you were switching to 73-87 stuff up front. If that's the case, go with Belltech. Get the 1 1/4" HD rotor version. Even if your stuff is not HD, it is cheap to upgrade. Rotors and calipers are like $12 each at the local parts store...

I believe he would need new bearings too to go with the new rotors...but I am not 100% positive...I'd check to be safe.

215/75-15 is 27.7" tall ; 6.5" van ralley is ideal width
225/70-15 is 27.4" tall; 7" rim is ideal
255/70-15 is 29" tall; 8" rim is ideal

I ran the 215/75/van ralley & 255/70/8" truck ralley combination & thought the wheel/tire combo was just right for >4/6 drop.

Yep, there fairly easy to find. They came on the full size GM vans since the late 70's & are identical in appearance to the wider truck ralley. Mine were stamped 6.5" w/a dbl letter code just after.

Ordered a set of 2.5" Western Chassis drop spindles today...221 plus shipping. Have a few buddies running the same spindles and like them very much. Thanks for all the replies

Thanks Scotti! I have a complete set (4) of the 8 inchers and a complete set of 7 inchers. I would like to find me a couple of the 6.5" too.

I have decided against putting my 18" Billet Specialties wheels on until after the truck is painted ... which may be never. And since it's gonna be in primer and sealer for a bit, I thought I would just run the rallies I have.

Not really "ol skool" ... more "Bo Duke redneck skool."

I looked at a 255-70-15 tire today, and like the looks of it ALOT, but I am concerned I will have a rubbing issue on the inside of the rear fenders on the stepside bed. The fenders (if viewed from the rear) taper in towards the beside as you follow it up and I think (dunno yet) once the bags are dumped, the tires will rub the inside of the fender. Just so happens, my dad has a set of 255-70-15's mounted on a corvette rally style wheel and once I get the bed re-assembled, I should be able to see if this tire is going to rub or not. Taking the bedsides, fenders, tailgate and cross sills to the guy who's gonna do my media blasting for me tomorrow. Hope to have those back by next weekend so we can do some assembly work and see if these tires are gonna work or not.

I am sure hoping so after seeing them on the wheel. Nice and "meaty."

The 255-70's fit just right on an 8" rim & you shouldn't have rubbing issues w/the stock 4" back spacing.

A 225-70 on a 7" rim up front would work well but I liked the way the 6.5" van ralley helps tuck the front track width. On my 68 I noticed the track width is wider once you add disc brakes vs. the stock 68 12-bolt rear. I can't stand to have the front wheels farther apart than the rears (it just doesn't look right to me).
