Whats the difference?
On my truck I have the heater controls in the middle of the dash area, they are up and down sliders that control defrost, fan speed, and temp. Ive seen some others that have the controls which look much different under the dash. What is the real reason they did that? I cant imagine how you could make an "economy heater" and not have just a regular heater.

Re: Whats the difference?
Sounds like your truck had A/C, or possibly some one installed A/C controls.

Re: Whats the difference?
From what I have seen so far there were 3 different heat/vent setups with 3 different heater cores with out getting into AC. With AC there are even more combinations.

Re: Whats the difference?
On '64-'66 Chevy trucks, there were two heater/defrost options.
The basic unit was called Thrift Air. The control on the dash is a single pull knob that controls the air flow and fan speed. The defrost diverter is on the heater plenum box under the dash. It is a single knob that swings open to divert air flow to the dash vents. The second option is the Deluxe Air heater/defroster. It has three slide levers/knobs, that control the heater, defroster and fan speed. Some trucks came from the factory with no heater and had heater delete plates covering the heater box openings under the hood on the firewall. The '60-'63 trucks were equipped a little different, however I am not familiar with them, whereas I only have '64-'66 Chevy trucks. I hope this helps. Tony |

Re: Whats the difference?
You say all the controls are 'under' the dash? Sounds to me like an aftermarket A/C-heater setup. I think that most 60-66 heater controls, no matter which setup, are on the dash. I could be wrong though...

You are correct, all factory heater controls are on the dash. Tony |
