How do you like your new exhaust system?

It seems from a previous thread that a bunch of guys have got new exhaust systems either this weekend or recently. How do you guys like them compared to your old system? I got dual flowmaster 40's with an H pipe on my '70, and before I had on a single flowmaster with exhaustgoing into a 'Y'. It sounds a little nicer, but it seems to have a little less bottom end, but lots more top end, and the sound is much nicer at higher rpms.

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

I love my new system. My old system had some leaks and a blown open muffler so it was pretty annoying. I started out with a nice pair of Raven mufflers I got at a junk yard for $30. Since my engine is basically stock I went with 2 1/4" duals and a H-pipe and they exit in front of the rear wheels. I didn't put any tips on it though because I didn't like any that the shop had. I'll add 'em when I find the one's I like. I think it sounds good to me; not too mellow or too aggressive. I haven't really noticed any difference in performance though. Looking back I should have went with 2 1/2 " pipes but, oh well, it was cheap. The total price including mufflers was $180 so I am pleased.

my old pipes were nothing more than leaking flex pipe and rotted out glass packs.
Needless to say, I like the new set up 1000 times more.

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

i went from an original Y pipe with a blown muffler and a turndown to a set pf 2.5 inch factory style duals with walker quiet flows, everyone says its loud but the motor makes more noise than the exhuast, at any rpm.

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

I put a complete new dual exhaust just a month before I left with an H pipe running just rear of the front crossmember and using 2 Flowtech mufflers. Sounds really, really good and looks soooooooo much better. Instead of everything hanging down below the frame, it's all tucked up and as straight as possible.

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

Well I went from real crappy headers with flowmasters that dumped right behind the cab (under the bed). It was loud, leaked and was the main thing I did not like about the truck from the start.

The new system has center dump rams horns (1 7/8") with 2 1/4" aluminized pipe running down to a Flowmaster duel 2 1/4" in "Y pipe" and a single 3" out right into a 3" in /out flowmaster (40s I think) and single out the back right infront of the bumper. I have never had a street vehical that had a V8 and single exhaust but this thing sound just great I went with a single out because I will be using this truck for my shop parts runner but also for my tow rig so I wanted more torque than top speed. But when I went for a parts run today I opened it up and top end is no problem at all

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

I love my new set up

Dual 3" with CherryBomb Extreme "muff" & "ler" (Inside joke) dumping under the bed, but shooting out (hidden)
I did it all myself

P.S. I'm still working on the sound clip

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

what ever i end up deciding on for my 71, im going to go one step louder. i have a theory, that getting new exhaust is a lot like getting new bewbs.... they say you should always get 1 cup bigger than you think you want.. becuase in 6 months youll be back getting them bigger if you dont.

based on how i felt 6 months after getting true dual/2 flow40s on my 2001... this theory applies to exhaust too!

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

I'm running dynomx ultra flow race muffers with 2 1/2" exhaust and an H-pipe. I've always run flowmasters so I was on the fence at first. I like it a lot now

Re: How do you like your new exhaust system?

I really like mine. Flowmaster Super 40's are really loud to me but thats what I like. I think they sound better than the thrush glass packs on my 64 Vette.

I love my exhaust system. Looks, performs, & sounds great. Classic ram's horn manifolds, 2 1/4" pipe, dual polished Magnaflow mufflers, rear exit, with stainless steel magnaflow tips.
