Redneck overhaulin' - My 72 SG progress

After a year and a half on thinking about my 72 Sierra Grande, I finally took some vacation and went to dad's shop and 'got er done'. I had 4 days to swap the tranny/transfer case, replace brake lines, weld in a new cab floor, and get it all back together.

Here are some pics:

Day 1 - remove the body, engine, and tranny. Install a 700R4/NP208 and relocate the engine 3" forward:

Day 2 - cut the floor out of a 69 cab and weld it into the 72 cab (and also weld in new rocker panels):

Re: Redneck overhaulin' - My 72 SG progress

Day 5 - get ready to head back to Iowa with the new toy. I still have some finishing to do(700 wiring and shift linkage), but I felt I accomplished a good bit in the 4 days, just me and dad.

Nice Progress! Keep us posted. BTW, my sister used to live in Shell Rock and graduated from UNI. I don't think that's too far from you.

And to think I was proud of myself for getting new shocks installed over the long weekend. You've gotta be sore.

Project GPW (Grant Patrick Wheeler) is named after a great friend from Cedar Falls who had a HUGE passion for these trucks. For those of you in that area that were fortunate enough to have known him you'll certainly always remember him.

So you two just locked yourselves in the shop, put the pizza boy on a 4 hour loop and kicked some serious butt, very impressive!
