wiring problem?

hey guys gota few questions for ya. i have a 67 lwb 250 six 3 speed, your typical 67 no frills didnt even come with a radio. anyways this has been my daily driver for the last 3-4 years . been a great truck really no problems. anyways i will get to the point. was driving home the other night and noticed i didnt have any brake lights or turn signals. so i limped her home and the next morning i went out and the turn sgnal fuse was blown as the dome-stop fuse. so i replaced both and the both blew right away? things were smoking . well i got it handled and there were like 5 wires that were badly burned coming from the fuse box. the actually melted the fuse box. anyways i had a harness i saved out of a 72 350 350 . so i decided to use that harness . got all the under dash stuff hooked up heater, blower motor. wipers ,ect, ect and . it appeared the i was one the right track. remounted the outside harness to the inside looks the same . isnt it. now i have no ignition no dash lights nothing works but the heater and the wipers?. oh and the turn signals are inop and the brake lights.? its exactly like it was/but worse. are the harnesses that different? am i missing something? any help would be greatly appreciated. any direction would help/ thanks in advance tony

Re: wiring problem?

Looks like it's time to start looking at the turn signal switch. Most of your lights come through that switch..

I just replaced mine, and solved a lot of lights related problems (brake lights, turn signals, markers and dash lights all came back).

Don't take what I say as gospel though, I was still dumb enough to not notice the turn signal relay was broke on mine...

Good luck

Re: wiring problem?

and i jsut need to go remove the steering wheel. you can feed the harness out right? to just replace the switch? and any ideas on the ignition problem? i am thinking i need to . use the front harness off the 72 harness.? would the v8 automatic harness be that differnt form the I-6? i was jsut out there and it looks as if the ignition wires are a row up from my original to the 72 . is it possible just to move the connectors( i e ) the pin connectors? down one?

Re: wiring problem?

For the ing part look under your dash near steering column for a large purple wire that is on a plug ( purple in, purple out). Connect this with a jumper wire from one side to the other. Should now be able to crank engine. Look for your short that caused your problems in the wires that run to dome light in the door opening under the mat holder 1st. If the new harness came from a gauge dash, yes you can switch wires in the harness plug that plugs into the dash. Will try to look up the change over diagram for you.

Re: wiring problem?

All i say is go get the fuse box and all the wiring under dash and engine harness and rear tail light harness cast about 600.00 but you will never have a wire problem again unless you go hacking on it and get the 1968 harness but i say go and get the 1972 harness cus of all the up dates and other options that where offered if you want them if not at least its there
