Opinions about hoods

I have a question for you all. I have an original hood for the yellow 1970 blazer that has about 20 quarter sized hail pecks on it. I picked up another hood because body guy thinks I would be money ahead not having to fix all of the pecks with bondo and suggested that I find another hood with less issues. I found one and after cleaning the underneath side of spray on undercoating, I see that it has a little bondo in it, at least one dent repair and some in the front nose. The original hood is my choice but body guy says I may have issues from closing the hood and bondo cracking in the future. I am not a body guy and have no one to bounce this stuff off of. Or should I look for another hood that has a more predictable past? Please help. Thanks!

Re: Opinions about hoods

I would find a clean hood if it were me they are fairly common. I don't know about your area of the country but here we have a half dozen "hoarders" who collect 67-72 trucks and blazers just because you never know when you need a part and they love this era of truck. Also post up on the classifieds on the board here and I'm sure you will find a good straight hood within a close distance to you.

Re: Opinions about hoods

Thanks jc. Does the argument about bondo cracking make sense to you if I was to fix the original one? I am going to look around here for one. Anyone know where one is in Southeast Missouri?

Well since you are a subscriber you can post a "WTB" (Want to Buy) add in
the classifieds, but shipping will hurt ya. However .................. on July 6-8

Re: Opinions about hoods

Have you given any though to having the hail dents paintless dent repaired out of your hood? May cost more than a replacement hood maybe not.

Re: Opinions about hoods

I would do a post in the classifieds here asking any brothers in Mo. or close to you if they have a hood. I was just at one guy close to me and he must have had 15 hoods and tail gates leaning leaning like dinner plates between his shop and barn area. Also post WTB in your local Craigslist, you have to have them setup in your state. I see 67-72 parts listings all the time in our Boise Craigslist and it costs you nothing to post! they are out there close to you and for the less than the cost of shipping you should be able to score one. Less bondo the better in my book.....
