Shock Mount Bolt

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my front end of my 70 GMC 3/4 ton longbed and after removing the shock absorber the inner nuts have been welded to the mount bolts. Is this by design? or just a PO mod - if so any benefits?

Re: Shock Mount Bolt

When you buy your new shocks the proper mounting bolt should be with the shock. That is definatly a PO mod. You'll see what they are supposed to look like.

Re: Shock Mount Bolt

alot of times on these trucks the shock mounts loosen up over time and with use will elongate the mounting holes so the easy fix is to weld them in place

Re: Shock Mount Bolt

The holes on my 68 were elongated also. What I did was weld the spacer to the frame that comes with the shock mounting hardware kit and put a grade 8 flat washer on the inside of the frame, then tightened/torqued the whole mess down. That was about 2 years ago without a problem
