starter problems
hey guys i got a question, i put a 406 small block in my truck a few weeks back and now i got trouble i know the problem and i think i have a solution but i just wondering if you fellas think i on the right track with this
heres the thing since a 406 is a bored 400 (externally balanced) i decided to use a balance plate with my 350(internally balance flywheel) the thing with it is it is about 1/8" thick so then my ring gear was farther away from the starter drive , so i tapped the ring gear off the flywheel about 1/16 of an inch to make up some of the difference, now my starter is chewing teeth off the ringgear, manual tranny BTW i have parts on the way with a 400 flywheel and i say screw that dang balance plate, then while i have the bell housing off i going to measuer my starter drive mesh (anyone know this BTW, i think it is .045 +/- .015) will be doing this swap this weekend because right now the truck only starts sprint car style and my roomates are getting tire of pushing ,not sure if it matters but i am running a gear reduction hitachi starter from napa (so i can run a new style mounting starter on old style bell housing because it has no snout) sorry that is so long but i just wondering on some advice

Re: starter problems
well i cant really say right or wrong but what i can say is that the sprint car starting and the roomates getting tired deal is kinda funny
