Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

Just wondering if anybody has ever dealt with TriPlus for their sheet metal needs? I'm looking at one of there 2-inch cowl hoods and was wondering about the quality and fitment are they any better than a Goodmark hood? They are manufactured in Taiwan, are all sheet metal companies based overseas? I would like to buy Good Old American Made steel if I could! If anybody could chime in that would be great, Thanks.

Bought mine from mother truckers. Not mounted yet, but it feels good and solid.

Tri-Plus makes a LOT of items but not all. Goodmark also sells items from other manufacturers as Tri-Plus doesn't offer everything that they carry.

Then you would need to hit up swap meets and junkyards because all of the new stuff is made overseas

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

There is a company here in Phoenix called Certifit. They have some 67-72 stuff-they are cheap so that may reflect the quality. newhood for my s-10 $49 new fenders were about $35 each. I am not sure if they have cowl hoods and such...might be worth checking into? might be cheap junk?

Certi-Fit is "Ostler International" out of Salt Lake City, UT. They're a national distribution company for crash parts and are not involved in manufacturing at all. On very common panels (cab corners, upper wheel arches, and rocker panels) there are normally three to five manufacturers: Golden Legion, CH Legion, Tong Yang, Tri-Plus and Tabco. The more specialized the panel the fewer manufacturers will bother tooling it.

I've heard body guys refer to them as "Sortafit".

A co-worker bought a Certafit hood for his Tracer (Mercury Escort). It had waves in it in less than 1 year. The metal seemed to me to be quite a bit thinner than the factory hood on my Escort. I guess that is why it is cheaper.

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

Dunno, my fenders seem pretty nice but the later model stuff is thinner anyhow. i also put a fender on a 94 Nissan pickup for a co worker and it fit good. I haven't installed my S-10 parts yet but for the price i don't mind slotting some holes if need be....it's only a S-10

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

I am not totally in love with NOS as I have had to tweak those to fit as well. Usually NOS panels were seconds to the factory line and to top that most NOS panels available today that are around were made on tooling that was worn and tolerances not as good as when the vehicles were rolling off the line. Not saying NOS isn't junk by anymeans. What I am saying is I have seen some aftermarket stuff fit as good and some a lot worse. From what I can tell, Tri-Plus parts are some of the better parts out there. I can see paying stupid money for NOS that is not being reproduced yet, but as a rule, I won't pay more than 50% of what i can buy it aftermarket for unless the panel being made is pure crap.

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

I have had customers come in to my shop wanting to buy an aftermarket fender, because they couldn't get the NOS one to fit. Tri-plus is IMO the best reproduction company, that is why we are almost exclusively Tri-plus. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

I got my 67 front fenders from TriPlus. Picked them up at there warehouse in N.J. They seem to be of good Quality. John there ia a great guy he took the time to show me around his place. The thicknes of the fenders seems to be as oem but I did not mike them. Would buy from them again.

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

Have to say, I bought doors, floorboards and other stuff from tri-plus out of Goodmark. Doors bolted rite up and a little tweaking I was good to go. Sure is nice not having to deal with rust, I'm happy...

Shipping put a dent in my wallet, didnt know about the Jersey location last year, or I could have saved 300.00

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

We use Certifit alot on The Jap cars cause the customers don't want to spend any money and don't really care about the parts fitting that much.Just as long as they get it back on the road cheap. It helps pay the bills but I don't really like working on them. You can stand in line at the Houston store fro and hour and a half just to pick up an order. We use always sell TriPlus first and if they do not make it or are out of stock we will sell from another.

Shipping costs can be avoided by most people. There's a lot of great vendors regionally like Classic Heartbeat, GMC Pauls, Mike's Bump & Grind (as well as a host of others). Most vendor sites I've looked at don't actually profit from shipping....it just is what it is. Finding a vendor like those guys that can help you with technical questions, make sure you're buying the best parts available, and provide service after the sale go a long way to how enjoyable you'll find the hobby.

LOL...it wasn't meant that way. I've had calls for larger items from people WELL out of state and I've told them the same thing.

Just trying to keep a civil tongue, we aren't supposed to say anything bad about the vendors on a public forum

Back on topic, I would recommend Tri-Plus parts to anyone. You can look at them on my Jimmy anytime you want.... J.

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

Certifit, aka sortafit, is hit or miss. Alot is junk some is good. There 73-79 chevy fenders fit pretty good, there inner fenders suck!, a guy I knew used a 69-72 fender but I havent seen it, there cab corners suck but are real cheap, rockers- dont bother, I have used a 86-94 gmc safari grill and a 95-03 chevy astro grill- both fit good but the plastic they use aint the greatest but were alot cheaper than oe. I use them alot for stuff. As for the cowl hood, I used one from goodmark on a 67 and it fit without any tweaking. It was a scuff and shoot for me.

Re: Anybody ever heard of TriPlus? Or used them for sheetmetal needs?

I am in the process of installing my Tri-Plus parts right now... Great parts for the $$$, and no complaints. Call GMC Paul, he was able to get a deal to my door for the front clip that was unbeatable... -Nate
