Flaming river tilt column

Im working on a 1970 chevy and i pulled the factory steering column and I am putting a flaming river tilt column with column shift for a 700r4.I called falming river and was told if i use the factory drop itll be below the dash and the only way to get it in the factory position was to use the factory bracket. Is this true?the other thing is are the slpines on the shaft diff, because it doesnt seem to wanna go in i guess its called the rag joint maybe.Any help from past installers would be much appreciated.
