non A/C heater controls broke?????
okay here is the deal....the levers are fine....the cables are fine...everything works fine....but the back of the controls...where the levers and switch mount to the face plate has come off...looks like four revits that hold it on...or not revits but small metal dowels that are flattened to hold it on....well doesn't look like there is a good way to fix this without drilling four new holes and putting in some small bolts to hold it on the face plate....GMC Pauls has a rebuild kit....does it include the face?? I think all I need is the face...the controls are fine...except I lost on of the little knobs while pulling them off. What do you guys think?? Has anyone run into this?? Is there a trick that someone knows to fix it?? THanks for any help....by the way TRUCK IS DRIVABLE NOW!!....after 15 years..I've been driving it for 2 days now. it is still aligned well....you can let go of the the steering wheel. Its a pretty awsome feeling..the little 307 purrs like a sewing machine....well except for a tick that sounds like a lifter...but maybe after a while it will fix itself...I mean it has set up for 15 years...I'll post pics soon.

Re: non A/C heater controls broke?????
I've seen people drill the holes you were talking about and then rivet through them. I don't know of a way to reattach the faceplate to the frame other than that. As for the rebuild kit, it doesn't come with a whole faceplate, rather just a sticker to make it shiny again.

The face looks pretty good if you lightly dust it with the bead blaster... kind of a brushed metal look.

How about if you drilled them, use flathead machine screws and countersink the heads into the face, then put a new sticker on the face to cover up the screw heads.... LockDoc

The rebuild kits do not come with a new face plate. They come with a new sticker for your face plate. If you want to repair the one that you have you will have to screw or rivette the fase plate to the handle housing. Otherwise the fix is a new heater control. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
