It WON'T Budge....

...That STUPID steering wheel will not come off.

It has been soaked in wd 40, PB Blast, Driven with the nut loose. I broke one wheel puller (a cheapo). The wheel's collar and hopefully not the shaft was heated up and so far all I got is it flattened and damaged the main shaft threads...not too bad..I think it is repairable if I get the wheel off. In the process of flattening the shaft, the holes where the pulling bolts went into pulled out. It stripped the inside threads of the collar & a grade 8 bolt.

I believe this thing is hexed. It'ds almost as if someone welded this bad boy on. I have beat on it till my whimpy body can take no more.

Man I feel like a rookie at this...and since we have youth on the board I shall reserve the words for the truck and not here.

Any one with Ideas, or should I just look for a new column (preferrably without a wheel.. )

get a crankshaft (pulley) puller, the three slot ones(actually four slots), but only need three of them for the three bolts that youl be using

they are hard to break and are inexpensive also
ive never come across one that bad, sometiems maybe have to tap on the end of the shaft of the puller to set up some harmonic energy,

if you dont know exaclt what i mean then go to sears.com or somewhere or goggle.com and type in pulley puller tool

this is all i ever use for steering wheels, and i go to napa and buy grade 8 bolts only

That's what I used this last time Randy. I used the two holes the in wheel normally used (least by me) for pulling. You suggesting I use the harmic puller in the three holes where the horn ring screwed into??

What kind of column is it? Tilt, auto? I have a non tilt, powerglide you could have for cheap and I KNOW the wheel comes off. Plus I put a new tunsignal switch in it. Been trying to sell it and no one wants it. So I want it gone. $5 plus mail and it's outta here. Takes up space.

Can you disconnect the actual shaft from the gear box coupler and just slide that whole thing out of the column? Of course assuming that you don't have tilt. From the sounds of it, your gonna need that inner shaft replaced anyways...

It is a 3 speed manual. I kinda think that is what I am going to have to do..replace the thing. IF I do I'll try and find one for a floor shift and get a Hurst...which I was planning for later...but it might be sooner.
