Bellhousing Interchange

I have a 67 Chevy C-10, 250 I-6, 4spd manual with a broken bellhousing. I also have a donor 67 GMC 1/2 ton with a 305 v-6 4spd manual. I was wondering if the bellhousing were the same and could be interchanged? Thanks, Todd

Re: Bellhousing Interchange

The GMC V-6 bellhousing will not bolt up to any other engine except a GMC V-6. However any GM bellhousing from either an I-6, small block or big block will interchange.

Re: Bellhousing Interchange

That's funny, there was a guy asking this same question over on www.inliners.org
I didn't know the GMC V6s were different.

Re: Bellhousing Interchange

Just be aware that the center hole in the bell is different over the yrs. 67 & older is 4 11/16", while 68 up is 5 1/8" diameter. The older bell will accept a car trans(20/21/22 Muncie & center properly). CrazyL

The SM465 bellhousing has the casting #: 3925505 --5-1/8".
The SM420 bellhousing is #: 3815891 -- 4-9/16" [the way I measured it.]
