ORD Shackles arrived today - nice chunk of steel

I decided to upgrade the shackles on Project Money Pit (68 K-10) since new shackle bolts were $10 each x 4 bolts. ORD has their HD upgrade kit that comes with greasable bushings and such but since I already have a new Energy Susp. bushings kit I gave them a call. They sent me the 3/8" thick shackles by themselves for $44 + shipping so that's not a bad upgrade. I can now use 1/2" x 5" Grade 8 bolts from the hardware store.

Wish I had a drill press and bandsaw beacuase you could easily make something like this yourself. DIY 4x4 has them for $30 for 4 but they aren't zinc coated... SHould I paint these or put them on gold? any thoughts?

ps Shackles are also 1/2" longer which won't affect height much but is said to keep from having frame contact under extreme compression....

To date all my dealings with them and all their parts/pieces/products have been really good.

Re: ORD Shackles arrived today - nice chunk of steel

very true, I called on the phone and told the lady what I needed, (since they aren't for sale like this on their website) and within 3 minutes they were on their way to my house. Ordered on Tuesday and arrived Friday via UPS from CO to PA....

Do you think I should paint them though or will this finish hold up?

Re: ORD Shackles arrived today - nice chunk of steel

Mike,

I wouldn’t bother painting them. I have a pair on my ’78 K10 that I installed w/o paint almost 4 years ago and they look as good today as the day I put them on. Of course, the truck rolls less than 800 miles a year but the miles it does get are very brutal. We don’t use salt on the roads here either so that may help.

I am also in the middle of installing their rear shackle flip now and have their front sway bar disconnect kit on order. Those are pretty stout looking pieces as well. I should have pictures of that coming up within the next few days.

The gold will match the other 90+ Grade 8 bolts that I just installed on my frame.... These things make you think of a gold bar, even though i've never touched a gold bar!

It seems like half of my build money went to Gr8 hardware, that stuff is ridiculous.

Re: ORD Shackles arrived today - nice chunk of steel

I just made a set of those! 1.75 x .375tk flat stock. But i had to stay with the 7/16 bolts...You can get the 7/16-20x5" bolts from McMaster Carr for $7.40 for 5 bolts.
I vote for the zink finish.

I have to agree, McMaster-Carr is like the biggest Hardware store you ever walked into.... if I order parts at work by 10:30, they are at my door by 3:30. It's like they're waiting for my order. Catalog is awesome, it's 4-5inches thick

Just punch in a search, website pops up. I think their prices are cheaper than TS. Great work that your doing to the truck, really enjoy reading about it. Nice mods... J.

Is it running/driving now?

Is there a recent pic showing the whole truck somewhere?

Re: ORD Shackles arrived today - nice chunk of steel

Got em in today...much nicer than stock and it didn't really cost me any more. They wanted $40 for the special shackle bolts for stock or $44 for these and I used grade 8's from TSC with locknuts.
