Very Important info for you Guys wishing to run 73 and up Spindles

Here I go this took myself and Bill the owner of Bills truck shop in Ontario Canada to figure out Thought I would pass it on to you guys !Here is the list of stuff you need to Know .


1. The center link from 67-70 is diffirent from 71-72 the holes are bigger in 71-71 than in 67-70 YOU need to use a 67-70 center link or the one with the smaller holes .

2. Use 73 -up outer tie rod .

3. Classic Performance Products sell the sleve you must use it has 11/16LH thread on one side and 5/8 RH thread on the other. part number CP4SC $49.00 Bill can also get you the stuff just give him a call.

4. you must use a 67-70 outer tie rod on the inside seriously !

5. If you are thinking well the inner tie rod should be long /The sleeve in a quite a bit longer than the original.

6 you also use 73 up ball joints(not sure if you have too)

i dont know how or why but some of the 71 72 trucks have same center link as the 64-70 trucks(except with ram linkage p/s basically) i have seen both large hole links and small hole links on 71 72 trucks, differenc emay be if with p/s or not


71 72 lower ball joints are same as 73-87 ones, and uppers changed in 71 and yet again in 73


you also need 73-up hoses or at least year of hoses for the year calipeors you are using because 73-up hoses pass through the framwe rails and 71 72 pass under frame rails and are tons shorter hoses. i prefer the 73-up style alot more and holes for thme already exist in our frames.

I need to re-check this but it appeared to me that the 73 outer tie rod end I have fit the 71 sleeve perfectly, threaded on just fine when I was doing a pre-assembly for my drop spindles. I'll check again, but I hope I don't have to order the custom sleeves!

Why go through all this trouble swapping everything out? Early Classic manufactures a drop spindle for the 1960-70 trucks that bolts right on. I bought their kit and it bolted directly onto my stock 70 front end. My cousin and I installed the entire disc brake 4/6 drop kit in my driveway on a Saturday, with virtually no trouble at all. We had just a couple questions and they were so cool on the phone and helped us out. I would recommend their stuff to anyone.

I thought that's what I WAS doing when I ordered my Belltech drop spindles. I made every effort to ensure they were year specific and would bolt right in, two phone calls to confirm and still the spindles for 67-72 trucks require a 73 tie-rod end, in spite of them repeatedly telling me no mods would be needed. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Wow, that sucks! I thought Belltech had their act together, but I guess not. Did they tell you can't run a stock wheel with their 3" spindle? That's another reason I went the ECE, I can use my stock rally wheels with their 2.5" spindles til my 17"s get here.

I believe all the manufacturers stopped making the 3" drop spindle years ago because of clearance problems on some rims. I haven't seen a 3" spindle advertised in quite some time. I could be wrong, it happens.

I paid $240 for my 72 2.5" drop spindles from Early Classics. For a few dollars more, you get great service, and you can use all stock components, including rims.

Unfortunately, it's "how low will I be going". Still not done. I've got 3" drop springs for now, but plan on bags. That with 2.5" spindles and a 1.5" notch, it'll be 7" up front and probably 9" at the rear. I'll see how that looks and how practical it is around town. It's a short wheel base, so I should be fine. I'll post pics when the engine is in.

price i think there kit is like, 6-700 something??? thats a little pricey for me

Post swaping spindles

i have heard alot about swaping spindles for disc brakes on 62-69 and i have researched alot info on it at stovebolt and i think the best way to do this is just swap the complete front crossmember IFS.actually i had a 81 1/2 ton scottsdale ifs under a 66 bare frame and the fitment was okay except drilling two holes on the frame.and the brake lines fittins were metric but there are adapters so not a problem but thats as far as i got i hade to move and couldn't take it with me,so this time i'm going with a 72 IFS on my 66 since i'm doing a total frame off restore.anybody else got any info on the ifs swap
