First generation yoke conversion too 2nd
Has anyone tried converting a first generation hub on a 1/2 ton 4x4 to the newer style hubs? If so what’s involved other than new spindles and hubs.

First generation hubs have a 2" inner bearing and 1 3/4 outer bearing. 2nd generation hubs have a 1 3/4 inner bearing and I’m not sure about the outer bearing size but I do know it’s smaller. New hubs on a 2nd generation new are about 80 dollars at Kragen Auto with a new disc brake included, first generation are well over 200 for the same part.
My hubs are good but my spindles are shot. A new first generation spindle is a 179 dollars alone. So you can see there is an advantage changing over too 2nd generation hubs. I’m just not sure if it can be done. I guess If I buy the new spindles for a 2nd generation and get a hub and rotor assembly and some new bearings I can see if it does work. But if I’m wrong I’m out some money that I could spend elsewhere on my restoration. Bill
