What size is this bolt?
before I head out and buy a socket(s) I don't need, thought I would ask you all first: What's the size of this idler arm bolt?

I don't remember, but I used a cheap set of HF 3/4" drive and adaptor, didn't cost much and worked fine.

The nut on mine, 1972 power, is 15/16.. hope that helps

 maybe at the same store that you buy the socket you could by a caliper .dividers.and machinest ruler for your tool box so you can measure things in the future

IIRC it is 1 1/16. I kinda remember because I only have one socket that size and it took me a while to find it.

I had to go out and lock the shed anyway so I checked three steering boxes I have out there and all of them are 1 5/16". Two of them are power and one is manual. LockDoc

At the risk of sounding like a shadetree, I did use a crescent to get mine off. I didn't have a big enough socket and no way to get to the store, so crescent wrench it was. Had to push against the crossmember w/ both feet to get that thing off.

As much as I generally detest crescent wrenches, I do keep a couple around and I recently found some that had measurement markings on the jaws. They've turned out to be really handy when working with odd-size stuff to minimize trips to the tool box.

"sockets you don't need"...somehow there's something very wrong with that statement...lol
I would really recommend going to HF and picking up thier 3/4 impact socket set, and a 3/4 breaker bar...about $40 for both! I just did that this past weekend to take the rear end out of my 68...money well spent...they come in very handy when taking some of the larger bolts/nuts off of these old trucks...
