LOW DOUGH Progress thread

Hay everybody!

I thought I would throw this up here. I have a 71 C10 LWB (Low Dough) and a 69 C10 LWB (parts truck). I am using the front clip, doors, and maybe the bed from the 69. I will keep the cab and fix it up later.... maybe.

The 71 already has the 69, 6-lug rear in it right now. I need the 71, 5 lug rebuilt so I can put it back in. That was a big reason for buying the truck. Plus the 69 is a factory a/c truck. I just don't have the compressor. Oh, yeah no motor or transmission in the 69.

I have had the 71 for about 7 years and it was my daily driver up until about a year ago when I got a new GMC Canyon. WOW! I can drive so far on a tank of gas!

But, I am ready to drive it again. It should be on the road in about 2 to 3 weeks. I can only work on it on Sundays. It’s my only day off.

This is my 71

This is what it looked like a week ago

Here is the 69.

That is not me. Get out of the picture! About to take off the front clip.

I still have to download the most recent pics with the motor back in.

Re: Just want to drive it again

Will be nice when you get to drive it again - only getting 1 free day a week does slow things down but you will get it done!

my brother goes thru Wylie every day. DO you have two 6 lug rallys to get rid of?

Looks like your parts truck had a date with a telephone pole???

It sucks having them apart. A few weeks isn't too long. I didn't drive mine for over 3 years while I was in college

That is the 71. I am fixing that truck. The parts truck is the 69, the one that looks good.

More pic... This is what it looks like now. Well, it has plug wires on and a board sitting across the frame for the battery to sit on. I cranked it over but no start. I went home after a few tries.

Re: Just want to drive it again

What was wrong with the 69? That was a damn nice looking truck.

Shoulda just thrown the motor and tranny into it and been done.

Re: Just want to drive it again

The 69 cab is in worse shape than the 71 and the driver side shock mount on the frame is gone. The hole and the metal that stick out so the shock bolts up at an angle is gone. I can’t believe I don’t have a pic of the shock mount. or whats not there

69 drum brakes
71 disc brakes

But.... I do need the radiator support brackets that are on the frame from the 69. The 69 clip and doors and probably the bed will also go on the 71.

Right now I just need to get it started so I can go ahead and put the clip on.

Does anyone now how you might get the brackets off the frame? How to remover the rivets? I am thinking an air chisel is the best bet??

Re: Just want to drive it again

Well, I got it started and the 69 clip is on. Still need to tighten everything up on the clip and put in the seat and gas tank. I forgot my camera. Took some pics with my friends but he didn't have any CD's to put them on.

Oh, I need a radiator now. I put one bottle of coolant in it, turned around to get more and turned back around to see it leaking out. DOE!

Re: Just want to drive it again

You still need a radiator? I have a nice 4 core. I'm over in Forney, not too far away..well the radiator is at my buddies house in Forney. I got two when I bought my truck. I'll let it go cheap.

This is how it is sitting right now. But with the hood sitting on it.

This Blazer is right down the road. I wish I could take it home every time I pass by it. It's been there for at least two years.
