thinking outloud. input welcome
I have a 83 3/4 ton long bed 4 wheel drive with a 4 speed. It has a four inch lift with rear blocks and a 3inch body lift and run 39.5 swampers wih a little trimming. I was thiking of getting a six inch lift allsprings and remove the body lift and see where that puts me. its not exactly a daily driver just a work and hunting truck and whatever. My othr idea is order 4 inch rear lift springs and chunk the blocks and keep the bodylift.Ill try and post a pic not sure how. ill have to get on off the laptop and go upstairs to send a pic

What ever you do,loose the blocks.I also have a great hate for body lifts so I'd remove that to.

What blocks do you have in the rear? Blocks are fine in the rear, the factory uses them all the time.. For a hunting/work rig, go cheep! You need more lift, I can see, so a few more hockey pucks wont hurt a thing. Up to you, or go 8 inch of spring lift all around, might need a hockey puck or two, and be done.

Re: thinking outloud. input welcome
I just don't like blocks because of axle wrap...And I havent liked body lifts since I bought my 71.It had a body lift.I dont like the fact the bumpers stay down and the body goes up.Of course you can fab up mounts and raise the bumpers but I just prefer to go with a full suspension lift.

Re: thinking outloud. input welcome
I agree. I dont like body lifts either, but if it is just tires and lift to get you through what your going through, go for it. I would go suspension lift period, but alot of guys dont really care, and want to save a buck. The exposed frame, and low bumpers are what get to me on body lifts.... The ol' hockey puck trick.

Re: thinking outloud. input welcome
thanks, the extra axle wrap worries me some pulling heavy trailers i guess, the body lift really doesnt stand out that much hardly noticeable really the bumpers do line up. I guess ill leave it till i have trouble with something. I really do prefer lift springs in the rear i may just order a pair for the rear later.thanx for the input

Re: thinking outloud. input welcome
I dont think you body lift looks bad they stand out bad on the 67 to 72 trucks. I think you could use some more room so I would go with a six on all 4 corners or to save cash get 4 rear and a set of 1in zero rates from ORDon all 4 corners or better yet a chackle flip from DIY4x4 or ORD for the rear and the zero rates. And by the way I love those Rims they are on my list of posible choices for the burb.

Re: thinking outloud. input welcome
I'm going to take an out of the box thought on this question. Why lift more? tire clearance with the 39.5's? If it's nothing more than a hunting truck a light working, why would you want it even higher? It just makes it more impractical to use for loading into the bed. My thought would be to just take the sawzall and make more room for the tires. If the current lift works why spend the money on new parts. Carefull planning and cutting can still give you a decent look to the fenders and have room to stuff the tires in. If you want it to look more finished get some bushwhacker cut out flares.
I tend to like a lower center of gravity so that even with the big tires the truck doens't have as much of the tippy feeling when turning corners or on the trail in an off-camber side hill. The big tires still give you tons of ground clearance to the axles, but without the negative effects and cost of a 6" and up lift would get you.

Re: thinking outloud. input welcome
what kind of 4" springs do you have up front? i'd pull the blocks out of the rear, and install a 4" shackle flip in its place, and call it good. www.diy4x.com www.sky-manufacturing.com and www.offroaddesign.com all make nice products.

Re: thinking outloud. input welcome
hey bigtruck81 the shackles look like agood idea read on them alittle. i do like the way the truck sits it has the fenders trimmed on the front it sits long and squatty but when you walk up to it it is tall. and really stable on 39s. the shackle would solve my major concern is the blocks getting them out.
