I bought a repop tank and sent it back. I am having my tank refurbished. I
haven't heard it run on anything but 15 yr old gas until tonight. She sounded
pretty good there is a small exhaust leak in rear pipes and carb has a leak.
The truck is all stock. Would you rebuild the quadrajet or replace with aftermarker and keep the original carb so you could replace if necessary to restore orginality. Oh yeah it does have duals so not 100%completely orginial
but real close.

BB72: I'm in the same situation w/ the tank and qjet. Haven't bought a reproduction tank, but was looking in that direction. From the sounds of it, I may go your route and refurb my original tank. If you don't mind me asking, how much is this going to run you? I'd also be curious to know how much it would cost to have the qjet rebuilt, since I know nothing about this.

To have the tank redone I was given an estimate of $150 to $180. I dropped it off this morning but the person I spoke to on the phone was not in today to say if it would be the $150 or the $180. I assume it depends on how jacked up the inside of the tank is when they clean it. As far as the carb goes I have decide to keep the qjet for now. I do not think I have the know how to properly rebuild the carb so I'm going to check on finding a good person to do it at the right price.

if you have the time I've used the "at home" reconditioning kits with success on two vehicles-never a problem you just have to FOLLOW the directions to the tee, and its cheaper too

With the qjet, you will be best off if you can find someone local who has been rebuilding them for years. While they appear simple to rebuild, they can be finicky and need things like throttle shaft wear and horn warpage checked closely.

I cannot recommend buying an assembly line rebuild. While some work good for years, others don't. The biggest problems are they mix parts and don't check fit and wear as close as I prefer.
