Junkyard Posi
Today I found a 71' chevy truck in a junkyard.
I read the glovebox panel and found it has factory posi. How much do you think its worth? It seems to be in really good shape. There were no metal shavings and the gears almost looked new. Just looking for some opinions. Also could I get some pictures of a factory Posi too? |

Re: Junkyard Posi
I'd like to find one for $100-$250 but I think it would go for more.
Check out this in the parts. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=227160 |

Re: Junkyard Posi
The dana 44 is a 10 bolt with a 8.5 ring gear and the 12 bolt has a 8.875 ring gear. The 10 bolt dana 60 is 3/4 ton (even though you didn't ask).

Re: Junkyard Posi
Dana 44 has 8 1/2 ring gear. 12 bolt has 8 7/8 ring gear. No way the carrier is the same. |

Re: Junkyard Posi
as far as the junkyard rear is concerned i'd offer the yard $50 and if you cant use it sell it on ebay or craiglist for $300

Re: Junkyard Posi
The 12 bolt is usually the preferred differential.
Here's a website with some good info. http://www.offroaders.com/info/tech-.../axlefacts.htm

Re: Junkyard Posi
There has been quite a few link (threads) lately on posi rearends and the power trax. Do some site searches and you'll find all kinds of info that has been posted lately.

Re: Junkyard Posi
...and don't forget there were some dana 60 1/2T rearends...both coil & leaf models...most were '66 & earlier...not full floaters like the 3/4T.

Re: Junkyard Posi
The Dana44 rear is a great axle. It`s what`s in 4wds and they hand alot of abuse.I`d keep whatever I had.I wouldn`t swap one for the other. They both work fine.I built a pro=street shortbed and went up to a coil Dana60 with Mark Williams 5-lug outers.
I bought a posi for $175.But,I`d give the junk man $50 like cdowns said.

Re: Junkyard Posi
I paid $35 (+$10 for the torch job) for my junyard posi 12-bolt but that was at a large JY that had set prices. It was a 12-bolt coil out of a 69/70. I'm adding spring perches and getting ready to put it under my 4x4.
