205/203 doubler?
I've got a 71 shortbed lookin to put in a 700r4 with a 205/203 can this be done on a shortbed? I think my rear driveshaft angle would be pretty severe. If I rotated the rear axle maybe it would work. Anyone with expeariance?

Re: 205/203 doubler?
How much of a lift would determine the final outcome. A 4'' would probably be ok 6'' and above would be pushing it

Sure, just use a rear drive shaft with a CV joint in it.
Can't rotate the rear axle and call it good to go though, both angles need to be the same at each end. |

Re: 205/203 doubler?
I like this drivetrane combo. that's a long assembly for a shortbox but its plenty do'able. you may run into vibration issues at hiway speeds if you don't get your driveline angles within reason. if this is a trail rig and town runner go for it. if this is a daily driver/weekend warrior that sees hiway speeds then some money is going to spent on high angle CV's and rotating the axles. Also you may need to lower the t-case which will help relieve the rear shaft angle but will stress the front a little more. This is not expensive but it detracts from ground clearance so the case assembly may need a skid plate which adds to your costs. -steve

Yeah I am gonna have probably a 6in lift. I didnt think about the cv joints, that's a good idea. I'm not sure if I'm really gonna go this route because I do use it at speeds up to about 55 mph.

I'm running 40's w/ 5:13 gears, so you know the drive train was turning up pretty good. The bigger issue is tire balance. |

Oh cool, I will definately be considering this mod. Yeah I probably wont be going over 35" tires, that's what I'm runnin now with 4.56. I'm actually down right now, my rearend blew up I first found a chunk of my pinion and then after closer inspection I found that my carrier was cracked in half. I've got a 14 bolt and Dana 60 for it I just don't have the cash at the moment to have both of those rebuilt with gears and then new wheels and tires. Not to mention the down time, I need to get it back on the road for now. Albie |

What about a Lomax t-case?
3:1 low and no need for the long drive train. With your existing 4:56's, that'd make a decent running gear set up. |

Never heard of em, I'll have to look them up. Are they pretty stout like the 205's?

I believe they sell either...a complete t-case or the conversion package. http://www.jbconversions.com/images/...kit/leadin.jpg There's also Atlas. |

Re: 205/203 doubler?
the lomax kit comes with a new case and the gears to to make it 3.01 in low you take your 205 apart for the rest of the parts last i checked it was 1100.00 dollars ifyou have a 203 and a 32 spline 205 allready all youll need is the adapter ord has them and high impact transmission has them made of steel ord has them made of billet alum it will take two crossmembers to work the front will need to be cut for the front drive shaft these doublers can be street driven in high range then you put it in the lowest gear and climb right up hill i like it the 203 -205 doubler there great. hay you might have to rotate the rear axle a bit for the drive shaft
