66 gmc axle swap
Hey guys, Im new to the club and new to these older trucks. All the info I found on here so far is freakin awesome.. I have a question about swappin axles in my dana 44...What kind of axles do i need to use to go down to a 5 lug rear end?? I have a rearend from a 77 chevy sittin here, will they work and how do i change them???

Welcome to the forums.
For the GMC trucks, it should have leaf springs in back, if so swapping to a newer 5 lug axle should be a breeze. I know a guy here in town that did this on his '63 GMC (first year for leaf springs). Now if your truck is a canadian GMC (which has trailing arms), then pick up a '71-'72 Chevy C10 rearend. The only difference in axles is there is 1 extra inch at each end of the axles. Same as for the '73+ trucks axles. David

check the leaf perches, cut weld new if needed, bolt in. you might need to reduce the or correct the brake line fitting to the wheel cylinder.
