1948 3100 Build Update

Here are some pics of the mustang II front end I welded in over the weekend and the camaro rear I hung. It's starting to come back together again!

Re: 1948 3100 Build Update

Slow progress lately. I have the cab back on the frame, engine mounted and I fit the rack from the Mustang II to the modified original column. I had to lower the column about two inches to clear the headers but everything fits and works pretty nice.

It's a TCI rear spring setup. They say that it should lower the truck about 4 inches. It has plenty of clearance between the axle and the frame. I did not have to notch frame. The only real work involved was grinding the old rivets out of the original spring perches to replace them with TCI spring perches. My frame had a little rot in the frame rails around the perches, so I replaced some of the steel and boxed in the frame in the front spring mount area. Other than that, it's pretty much a straight bolt in.

Re: 1948 3100 Build Update

Here's the latest update. I just finished getting the gears done in the rear (79 camaro 3.73 posi) and painted the frame, suspension, etc. It's slow going but I'm making progress. Now I can start doing the body work....

Would you take some measurments for me on your rear axle. Centerline of axle to rear of chassis and also total wheel base length, C to C.
Thanks I am trying to get a better feel for the placements of my spring pearches.

Re: 1948 3100 Build Update

Solidaxel,
I measured 36.5 inches from the rear of the frame to center of the axle tube. The overall wheelbase is 117 inches c to c. The rear axle was moved 1 inch back from the stock 116 wheelbase to center the rear tires in the wheel wells. Hope that helps!

Re: 1948 3100 Build Update

Progress is slow as as usual but I'm still moving along pm the project. I managed to get the body on the frame, finished body filler and block sanding. I shot the firewall gloss white yesterday and I'll be doing the rest of the body in black epoxy primer until I figure out what color I'm going to paint it.

Here's some recent shots:

no, no gas pedal or linkage yet. recommendations? redoing the firewall and toeboards now. using a power booster under the floor, custom mounting bracket.

Re: 1948 3100 Build Update

I'm using a gas pedal from some misc. car I found at the junk yard with a lokar cable. I slightly modified the throttle bracket from 89 suburban for use with the trans and throttle cables on the engine.

I'm using the stock brake pedal assembly with an adapter from ECI to use a mustang master cylinder. The pedal just clears the head when it's fully depressed. I made sure it cleared before I welded in the engine mounts.

Re: 1948 3100 Build Update

I'm just about finished wiring it, got the engine running, and mounted the fenders and running boards. I still need to spray the bed when the weather gets a little warmer but it should be on the road soon to start working out the kinks, etc.
