New to Board 57 Project
Just thought I would say hello I have been working on my 57 project for 3 years. Slow but sure.........but I do all my own work a little $$$ at a time. It was a 57 3200 with a 58 front clip. The original paint on the front clip matches the paint on the cab so not sure where it came from. Never the less it is now a SB 3100 we shortened the frame. A friend told me about this board and I enjoy reading about your projects and seeing pics. Thanks to everyone. I may ask for advice from time to time I hate to reinvent the wheel if someone already knows the answer. I have some photos of my project here if you are interested http://www.tagworld.com/azmark
I should have some newer photos posted soon I just finished my TPI and serpentine setup. Working on the TPI wiring, Elec, PS hoses, and fuel system. Seems I have more time than $$$$$$$. I forget who's signature is "Honey I am almost done spending money on the truck" this is great sounds familiar. Shop supplies are important!!! Never run out of beer in the shop fridge. |

Re: New to Board 57 Project
Cool looking truck. Do you plan on polishing your TPI or going chrome? Mine's on it's way to chrom with my valve covers and V belt pulleys. I wish I would've gone serpintine like my 88 IROC. Keep the pics coming and to the board.

Question, why are you using solid motor mounts on the engine?

Re: New to Board 57 Project
Hey there mcarrel, I am real curious about your TPI system. When you acquired it did you get all the bits and pieces along with it? It came off a 305 and it's going on a sbc with 361 cubes with a upgraded cam. So I'm thinkin that you might want to go to larger injectors and reprogramed chip. I am just recently exploring this myself and am interested in the details. Looks like a great project.

Re: New to Board 57 Project
I'm using the same TPI. GM designed the TPI units for the 305 and used it on the 350's as well. Although the injectors on the 350's are larger, and the ECM's are tuned for the motors they came with, you can burn a chip for what ever specification you have. I'm running a slightly modded chip in my '88 IROC that lets both fans come on at 190 degrees. If you're really concerned about performance, you'll want to get a bigger throttle body and runners. Then have your intake and plenum port matched. I'm not worried about my '54, but my IROC will have these:
These are from:http://www.azspeed-marine.com/inco2.html The biggest complaint from owners of performance TPI cars is that stock units didn't allow enough air into the intake. If you're interested in learning more about TPI click here: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tpi/ There's more info on here than you can read in a day. It's been very helpful for me as both my '54 and '88 are TPI vehicles. My '54's TPI is going away to chrome for plating. I hate polishing aluminum. My IROC is getting the cast/port matched one.

Re: New to Board 57 Project
Hey Daniel
Thanks for the info I just finished rebuilding and installing my TPI unit. I bought a set of 24lb injectors to replace the old 19lb ones. I also semi-polished all the parts then sprayed them with VHT high temp clear. These were then baked in an oven at 250 and 400 deg. I will have to see how this works out in time not sure if this was a good idea......... Time will tell. Currently I am just finishing up my custom wiring harness. Spent much time I think I am going to mount the ECM and all the relays behind the seat not sure yet. I still need to get a new PROM burned also. I agree when I have the PROM done (I think you are right) 190 deg sounds about right they can set this in the prom. What are you going to do about the park/neutral input? I have a 1972 column? Thanks for the info on the trirdgen.orgtechboaed I have started reading some of this. Talk to you later may have some questions.I will post some pics soon. Got my P/S hoses today got to get to the shop and see if they fit. Mark Quote:
