door jammer question??

I got a set of door jammers from electric life. The instructions say to install them in which ever location is easyer. Either I drill a 3/4" hole in my door edge for the spring and the plunge hits the door post or do it just the oppoiste. The inside of my door has a curved false panel which means removing the door to get straight on the jamb to drill through both panels. My kick panels that are spot welded to the door post are rusted, is this a structual problem?? Is drilling a 3/4" hole in the U chanel door post going to weaken it? or will it be ok?
