Progress Pics of my 70 GMC Restoration..UPDATED 12/13/07

Here are a couple pics of my 70 GMC I'm doing the "frame off" restoration on. This is just a couple of the many pics....

1. Disassembled, sandblasted and applied POR15 to everything, then reassembled. All new Stainless Fuel & Brake lines, new bushings, new grade 8 bolt/nuts, new Eaton Posi in rear axle with stock 3.07 gears. New 15 x 8 American Eagle 149 wheels & B.F. Goodrich Classic 275-60-15 white letter tires.

2. Fresh Dupont ChromaBase & ChromaClear paint on the cab. 3 coats base & 3 of clear, then color sanded & buffed. We're talking expensive paint here!! Have already applied spray-on bedliner under the cab & inside the bottom of the doors. Will also spray it under the bed and front fenders. Began installing the Vintage Air.

3. Began installing the B-Quiet Ultimate sound deadning material. Will do the entire floor and inside doors.

4. Freshly rebuilt "numbers matching" 402 Bigblock, mostly stock except for Torquer 2 Cam. Using an aluminum Pro Comp Hi-Flow waterpump. "Numbers matching" Turbo 400 has been rebuilt & painted also.

I'm also using Stainless bolts anywhere they can be seen. I'll be doing this for a while. What do you think?? Greg

Re: Progress Pics of my 70 GMC Restoration

THANKS for the great comments!! That's what is keeping me motivated, comments like these from friends, family and people I sub some of the work to. It's the factory color...527 Dark Gold Metallic. Much better quality than the original paint though. This began last October, so it's a long term thing to do all this. Greg

Re: Progress Pics of my 70 GMC Restoration

killer 71, If you refering to the black plastic panels on the firewall, they cover the factory heater and fan holes and gives a hole for the new heater & a/c lines to come thru. These plates come with the Vinatge Air Kit. This kit only requires drilling a 5/8 hole for the unit to drain, everthing else uses factory holes or covers them if they are not needed. Just in case I ever decide to go back all factory. Greg

Your truck is looking great. Thanks for the color idea!
I am doing the same right now without the paintjob. That will have to wait another 3 or 4 years.

Re: Progress Pics of my 70 GMC Restoration

Thanks Guys. After the day I've had, it's good to hear the great comments. My glass guy just broke my freshly rechromed vent window frame. Now I have to spend another $90, not counting the price of the part, to rechrome another one. And had a nasty phone chat with my bodyman for doing nothing with the rest of my truck for a couple months now. The guy does GREAT work when he does anything to it. Thanks again, You have cheered me up. Greg

p.s. I don't really know the $$$ figure yet, probably don't want to know, but I'm at $20K minimum. I have almost everthing new to finish stacked up.

Thanks, It was fairly solid, but you always find things when you start taking it apart. The rockers, cab corners and front door pillars were pretty nasty. Greg
