finding a posi
someday, id like to stumble across a posi for my truck (i dont want to do the dorky 1 wheel peelouts forever!). are there any other rear ends that fit under there without trouble other than 67-72? if there is anything to be on the lookout for, it would be good to know.

Re: finding a posi
I think $275 for a delivered 12-bolt truck posi, ready to bolt in is a great deal. If you can get one that's not worn out and if it has the R&P ratio you can live with, I'd say go for it.
Check with the experts, but I got the impression from somewhere that any coil spring Chevy truck 12-bolt 67 to 77 would fit. The junkyard, or experts here on the board would know for sure. Other alternatives are the Powertrax locking internals that replace your spider and axle gears (runs $400-500 last I checked) and can be installed at home in a few hours or so. They can be a little clunky when cornering, but I've heard they're a decent and cost effective alternative overall. If you want to keep your current R&P, this is a decent way to go. Converting your 3rd member to a new posi unit will cost about the same (say $400+) in parts (add about $150 if you change the ring and pinion) plus the time for (or labor costs for) the ring and pinion set-up. Swap meet parts might be cheaper, but then there's all the unknowns. If you go this route, play it safe and replace all the bearings as well for another $50 or so. All this may run $1000 if you have it done professionally. Finally, there's the aftermarket replacement rear end option. Advantage is it's bolt-in, all new parts, and guaranteed. Start your pricing at $1800 and up.
