i got it for free! A buddys son works as a fabricater at a shop in town. They had 3 welders at there house. Its a itty bitty lincoln weldpack 110. Works just fine. Now its time for me to go play in the garage tonite.

You can weld just about everything on the truck with that welder, including the frame...don't underestimate it! GREAT SCORE...you owe those guys!

I messed around with the metal thats the same thickness as whats on the wheelwells on my trailer (which need work). So far i am learning i am moving too fast and not making very good penatration. I feel the wire speed and power is right. I can do tack welds and it holds pretty good.

I should be able to go tomorrow and get a small spool and tip to mess with body panels.. I cut a slit in a bedside and tried to weld it up. But with .035 wire it burns right thru.

I guess you have found the code inside the side door that tells you the combinations for each metal thickness...these are generally pretty good. Go with a CO2/argon set-up and .025 wire for most of your sheet metal work.

Try just running a 1" long bead on flat metal, without trying to join anything first. When you get so you are doing nice welds this way with decent penetration go to lap welded joints, then butt welds. Just do about an hours worth per night for about a week before you start on your truck. Adjust the machine to see what faster wire speeds and more heat will do. You might stop at a welding shop and pick up one of the little Lincoln welding manuals that go with that welder. Lots of great information and instructions in that little pamphlet.

The Weld-Pak is flux-core only isn't it?

It sounds like you're running flux-core from your description. Stepping down to .030 from the .035 doesn't seem like that much, but it WILL make a huge difference in burn-through on lighter material. Both .030 and .035 should be readily available at any place that sells welding stuff. I've never tried anything bigger or smaller and have done quite a bit of fabricating with my little welder.

The welder is missing the door. SO i have nothing to go on, but advice from others. Yes its flux core but i can set it up for gas. I went and got a spool of .030 wire last nite. Im going to run up to the welding shop and get some more small peices of steel to practice on.

I have a flux core 110v welder & it welds great once you get it all dialed in. It took longer to get it set where it works good than it did getting used to the flux core wire. Id like gas but it works well enough that Ill probably just leave it this way. Im running .030 wire on mine & doing sheetmetal with it is a pain in the a$$! Im going to try some .023 & see if that helps. The best thing you can do is practice, practice, practice...

corn, can you even get 023 in flux core? i looked at farm and fleet but didnt check with prax-air. nothing but 035 at farm and fleet

Not sure. The welder says it will take from .023-.030 wire & I just figured you could get it. Now that you say it, they are probably talking .023 solid wire for gas setups. Ill let you know when I go look...
