new running gear
Hello! I am new here and have my first question. I have a '72 4x4 1/2 ton suburban and would like to smooth out the ride. I am getting about 10 mpg. I am considering buying a 1999 suburban from our local auto dismantler and trading out all of the running gear, fuel injection and all. I would be trying to get a "new suburban ride" with an old body look. Someone out there must have already tried this. Help!!!!!!!!

in the suspetnion section there is a truck on a doge frame with air ride and there is a I tihnk 71 with front and rear 4 link on air bags.
There have been a few trucks that have had this swap done. the wheel base is diffrent on the newer burbs by a few inches. I dont think you sill get that big of an iprovment to justify the work. new springs adjustable shocks and swaybars will probly get you close enough to what you want. when it comes to fuel milage the trans is were you want to look find somthing with an over drive the easest will be a 700r4 for auto any thing else will need a ECM to get it to work. if your going to use the hole drive train from the new burb it wouldnt be a problem. And one last thing  From East TN.
