Will a 73-87 front crossmember use components for a 72??
I may have found a deal on some tubular lower control arms and a 73-87 crossmember that a guy bought with a project truck and he isn't going to use any of it. The crossmember has been cut and set up for a rack and the tubular lower arms are new with balljoints and are for a 87 down. Will my spindles work with this and I would buy some tubular uppers also.

Hey I little insite on that crossmember and arms....It is a Bill Turner peice. I have the same on on my suburban. That is a pretty good deal for the parts. You should weld the Control Arm mount into the crossmember. Attached is a pic of a truck we did with those control arms. no dropped member. My suburban has a both!!!! I would make your own upper arms. If you don't want the crossmember let me know how I could get ahold of it!!!
If you want to use it you will need to switch out your ball joints to the correct ones to fit your spindles. |

So Bill did the cutting and the muskratII job as well to the crossmember or did he offer that? I just hate to buy it and it be a 1/2 ass job. If it will work I will buy it.

Bill would do them for guys. He did not do mine. I did mine myself. If Bill did it, most people didn't get them for months!!!! Who ever owns this crossmember might be able to tell you.

If you want to lay frame that crossmember will do it. You will need to do some cutting though to make it work. You will have to cut down the rack width, cut down your tie rod ends, make an adapter to go from the rack to your tie rods, you will have to make motor mounts to make it sit right, cut the tranny tunnel, if you don't have a high hump, you will have to cut the frame to make the steering cross through it. You should make a set of upper control arms.
I'm not sure how big of a tire you want to run in the front, but with that lower arm I don't really think you can drive ultra low. I think I am going to narrow mine so I can drive it low and steer. |

Oh ya on more thing.....In order to lay out you need the cut the bottom off the crossmember so that it is level with the control arm mounts. It will allow you to lay the frame rails on the ground @ the same time you lay the crossmember.
