500 mile trip, what gas milage to expect
i have to figure out if i can afford the gas to drive my truck from school here in WV to home in CT. its about 500 miles, and if im gettin 10mpg thats 50 gallons x $3 a gallon = $150. its a stock 79 K10 turbo 350 350 4 barrel, NP203 case, has the stock cat and muffler on it and the pipe out of the muffler is about 2 inches diameter..maybe less. stock intake and 33x12.5 tires. anybody have any guesses on what gas milage ill get on the highway with this thing?

Re: 500 mile trip, what gas milage to expect
Man that's a full time 4x4 case in that thing I'm surprised with that, the th350 and the 33's you get 10 miles to the gallon.
Our 86 was a 208 part time case, we ran in 2wd all the time, it had 33's and 3.08's with a 700r4 and only got 10 mpg around town. The highway seemed better though. I say if you are lucky maybe 15-20 on the highway. More then likely 10-15 mpg.

Re: 500 mile trip, what gas milage to expect
I got ~12.5-13mpg with about 90% freeway (70mph) last time I checked.
1986 1/2 ton 4x4 in 2wd, 350, 700r4, 3.73 gears. That was with a carb that didn't want to accellerate off idle very well so you ended up juicing it pretty good to get it rolling. I think that might pick up a smidge now that the carb is behaving better. But I think that 14mpg might be the best I could hope for.
