why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

I've noticed that every since I've owned my truck at speeds between 45 and 53 my truck wobbles, Like a dog thats shaking water off of it. It doesn't matter if I am on the gas or coasting, In gear or nuetral. Any Ideas??

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

well right now my truck wobbles between 15-35mph because of a cupped tire

but it could be tires out of balance/cupped, driveline, trans

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

This would be my easiest to most difficult repair list.

Tires out of balance.
Bent wheel.
U-joints.
Tie rods.
Bent driveshaft.
Ball joints.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

I was just about to say carrier bearing ....

Mine was the same way at around 2000 rpms ... come to find out the carrier bearing was off a bit. Needed to be adjusted .... go figure i didnt think you could align those things.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

HA! I couldnt't come up with any other description. But I sware thats the way it seems. I wonder if people riding behind me thinks " is that truck trying to shake light a dog or am I just seeing things"
I just had the drive shaft balanced and new carrier bearing put on along with new u-joints. Tranny new, tires new no cups but that doesnt mean there not out of balance seeing as how I had the morrons over at sams club mount them and balance them,( bad experiences in the past). Could be a bent rim or carrier bearing needs adjusting or ball joints and tie rods. Thanks for the help and I will check these as soon as I can.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

before i had this cupped tire problem my truck would move a bit and i had everything checked out, the tranny shop said everything is good, i balanced the wheels myself, the trans is fine, the wheels arent bent, then i noticed my brothers 05 f250 does it and so does my bro inlaws 95 nissan 4x4 hardbody, so its just a truck thing

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

When I picked up my 77, it wobbled for a block and I took It back, changed tires and it drove fine after that. The tires had flat spots from sitting so long. It sit for like 7 years on concrete.

Had a car that did the same thing but at 55 to 65 mph. It turned out to be the shock absorber, front. Good luck.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

my first guess would be a combination of front suspension pieces// personally if i go into the front suspension i do everything i find in the long run its time and cost effective compared to a suspension collapsing at speed

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

I had a '63 at slower speeds that would shimmy so bad you couldn't hold the steering wheel. At the time noone could figure out why. An old friend added a steering stablizer and it never did it again. Never did figure out why it was doing it tho.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

You probably have loss upper A frame bushings and the camber caster is off making the front end have a little play. Or somthing else loss. Need to go get it lined up and thay will check everything.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

I don't remeber my truck wobbling, but then again I am waiting to rebuild the mufed uf gm goodwrench engine My dad and I rebuilt last summer that has no oil pressure! I do remember in my 71 suburban that I had that similar problem , but discovered it was my driveline u-joints & carrier bearing.

If you are having vandilism problems, I would suggest a larg yellow jackets nest under the hood like I found on my truck. It kep everyone out!! LOL!

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

I would have your front end checked out, including the steering box. If it is not ajusted right it could cause this problem due to to much play.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

have you hit any curbs? one time i hit a curb at 35 and after that, the truck wobbled like you are saying. i lifted the truck and there was a huge blister bulging out of the tire that hit the curb. got a new one and that solved it.

Re: why does my truck wobble at certain speeds?

I had a bad pitman arm when my truck did that. Please check everything in your front end to be sure it's not a linkage problem.
