402 heads question?
I met a guy that has a set of 402 heads that have been rebuilt with new springs and a fresh valve job. I asked what he wanted for them and he said make him a offer. I'm not sure what they are worth and I don't know the casting numbers to make sure that they are 402 heads. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Rick

Re: 402 heads question?
I would tell him he's got to help ya out here a bit on the price subject as you are only interested in buying his heads so you shouldnt have to sell them too. If he does really want to sale them then he should know what he has into them & what he needs out of them. Good rebuildable cores alone are worth $200-$250 around here so pending proof and what all has been done to them would raise the price from there. Good luck on your purchase.

Re: 402 heads question?
If they are the square port heads, come to agreement and buy them, the oval port aren't as good.

Re: 402 heads question?
If you are building the "torque motor of doom", which will be better for a big heavy truck...the oval port heads will be cheaper and will be a better match. I paid 500 for my freshly built 454 with two sets of heads! If he is asking for you to make an offer...he wants way more than they are worth!!!!! I agree with cdowns...offer him $5...then he will tell you what he wants. Just because he spent money on having them rebuilt does not mean they are worth that amount. I bought a set of rebuilt heads for $75...guy just wanted them out of his garage! Make him guarantee them if they have been rebuilt and you spend any kind of money on them...used or supposedly newly rebuilt engine parts make me really nervous...I usually just pass on them unless I can get them for near scrap prices. You might be better off having your own rebuilt. If you were close I would give you the second set I have...just to get them out of my shop...after having to move them for the twentieth time...LOL!

Re: 402 heads question?
Do any of you guys have the casting numbers for 402 heads? Want to make sure that they are the right heads from a 402 big block. Thanks Rick

Re: 402 heads question?
There are several different heads depending upon the year and hp but check this site...they have them all.

Re: 402 heads question?
Are they truck heads? If so I believe it will say right on them. I would look but mine are buried ander other parts. Where is paradise CA. I am in Lemoore and I have a pair of rebuildable truck heads from a 72 402. If you want them for free I have no use for them because I have a set of 820 passenger car heads and like I said the truck heads I have are buried and will most likely never be used by me. Also I dont think the 402 heads had square ports? I think emissions were in full swing when the 402 came off the line and they are mostly open chamber oval ports.

Re: 402 heads question?
I bought the heads for $25.00 but they are not 402 truck heads. The casting numbers are 346236 which make them 75-67 oval port open chamber 454 heads with 120 cc chamber, 225/116cc ports. I can use them as back up for my 72 with a 454. Thanks for the input guys.

Re: 402 heads question?
Rectangular port BBC heads were on HP 396's, 427's and LS6 454's, only, I think.
