Hauling a Cab
Ok guys I am in the process of buying a cab and have been told on several occasions that a 67-72 cab will fit in the back of a fullsize pickup truck, my question is how do you sit it in there, like on its back or on its bottom or some crazy other way, and is there a chance that this will mess up the cab in any way if it doesn't have any doors on it?
I will be hauling the cab about 4.5 hours and would prefer not to drag a trailer with me but if it would be best to put the cab on a trailer I will do that, just want to see what you all think. I am sure if this is possible and ok for the cab then several of you all have done it. The cab I will be picking up is already got all the rust fixed and is in pretty good shape so I would hate to screw it up on the drive home.

the couple times i've done it upright and sideways fit good// you can put wood blocks under the floor to keep it off the rockers but i've just put it on the rockers to be more stabil and haven't noticed any damage

You turn the cab side-ways so the trany hump area goes over one of the wheel wells in the bed of the truck and the area between the cab corners on the back of the cab fits over the other wheel well. You may need some 4x4's to help clear the wheel wells.

I also hauled a cab home in the back of my 72 Chevy. Just be a little careful
of the sheet metal on the back of the cab near the corners. They can get bent very easy. |

Sits in there fine sideways and you can load/unload it with an engine hoist.

I threw a tire under each corner and strapped it down. Hauled it 10 hours that way with no problems.

you can do it in a SWB too, but you will ding the cab up with the tail gate.

And it'sabout 500 pounds as you see it there... so don't go blazin into the corners... trust me

Its going in a new 3/4 ton so I would say the weight won't be a major issue. I am assuming it will still go in a newer truck everyone on here seems to be hauling it in the older ones. Anyone confirm or deny the fit in a short bed 99-06 chevy pickup?
