3/4 to 4/6 -- A little advice, please (1,001 times this has been asked)

Hello suspension experts. Nothing's easy for me, but this should be for you. I've been searching and reading the board for a few hours. Just need a little to make sure I know what I need before grabbing for my wallet.

The truck: '70 1/2 ton LWB, 6x5.5 ralleys, drum brakes
Current setup: 3/4, coils only, lowering shocks all around (not relocated in the rear)
What I want: 4/6

What I think I need after studying this a bit:
  • 2.5" drop spindles for the front
  • Remove the 3" coils and replace them with my stock ones, cut to get 1.5"
  • 2" rear lowering blocks to go with my 4-inch coils
  • Bolt-in C-notch for the rear

But, here's where I get all wonky:
  • For the front: Since I have drums, do they make a drop spindle for the front if I want to keep my drums? Or do I need to go the disc brake route? If I go the disc brake route, am I looking at also having to go 5-lug?
  • For the back: Do I need the c-notch if this is not a daily driver, I don't haul anything in it, etc.?

Thanks for any and all help.

- No dropped spindles, that I know of, made to keep the drum brakes.

- You can get a 6 lug disc brake kit, but they are expensive.

- If you are only going 6" in the rear, a C notch isn't "mandatory" but an adj. panhard bar is.

Good Luck.

mcgaughys 2.5" spindles..229.00. mcgaughys 6 lug disc kit...229.00.. you'd be fine with 2" springs..i know you didn't want to grab for the wallet, but they make a nice kit, it's what i used on mine

Thanks all. Any more details on the adj. panhard bar, Shane? (Where they are available? What to do with it?)

I recommend the one from ECE ... some like the CPP unit ... they both cost about the same and do exactly the same thing.

It's used to center the entire rear end. Your suspension travels in an arc and when in motion it can have some side-to-side motion. Which is NOT good. The trackbar / panhard bar prevents this.

Early Classic Enterprises ... Super Track Bar on front page.

Classic Performance Adjustable Trac Bar.

If you want to keep the drums get a set of these from Charelys drop shop in Oregon. Im not positive on price, no idea where the receipt is....Maybe 300 bucks and 50 returned when you send him a core? Anyway I believe its a 2.5 inch drop. Stock springs and shocks can be used or you can drop it more with shorter or cut springs.

If you ever want to upgrade to disks you can use a stock height spindle with these arms. You can not use a dropped spindle with them.

That's pretty cool, CG. I saw them do that on a car on one of those hot rod shows. It looked completely stock.

CG - Did Charlie's used to be So Low Suspensions. I bought a complete kit from So Low way back in 92 or so and the kit had the stepped A arms......still on my truck.

I ask because So Low was in Oregon.

I dont know if that was them or not. I heard about these guys via the board. They seemed like nice people and got them out to me super fast.
