After six years, it finally drives again (well...stops).

I've finally done it. After 6 years of not being registered and legally street driven, I drove her around the block today. It felt great, but I was also on the edge of my seat with the power booster not being hooked up yet With front discs and no power assist, the brakes already feel a ton better than the 4 wheel manual drums ever did. I can't imagine how it's going to feel after I get the booster hooked up, and the rear brakes functioning. I'm pretty excited. To think I've done all this in a few months of one day at a time work, with nothing but absolutely basic and cheap tools..pretty awesome.

I'm going to check the shop across the highway tomorrow to see what he'll charge me to do the ball joints and a-arm shafts....hopefully it won't be too outrageous.

Now all I need is the power steering and I'm golden.

I envy you dude! Mine has been off the road for over six years and I hope to drive it pretty soon too!

It won't be purty, but at least I can ride!

Good Work !!!

Re: After six years, it finally drives again (well...stops).

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. I can actually drive it legally again too, I just got off the phone with the insurance company. Going to drive it to work for a few days, and probably around town as well. It does need ball joints and a-arm shafts, those are the only parts I didn't replace myself. It also needs aligned badly, so I'll have it in the shop very soon. I may change the trans fluid/filter this weekend, and I've got a full set of phantom gauges to install yet as well.

Hey Shane, I've been meaning to blow in your ear about those power steering brackets, you told me to do so a while back, and I just plain forgot. Any luck with them?
