Cool Pics of 82 Silverado

Now I am confused about one thing regarding this truck I bought in April. I thought the Silverado package had all the power options. Mine has no power windows or locks. Is this normal?

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

Does it list the silverado code on the tag in the glove box, or are you going by the badge on the fender? A previous owner may have replaced the fenders with what you have.

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

There no reason to think that truck isn't a Silverado. Silverado didn't mean you got power windows and locks, it just meant you got the upgraded grille, door panels, carpet and headliner. It also made your dash bezel and door trim brushed aluminum.

Many Silverado's were highly optioned and that's why you commonly see them with cruise, tilt, air conditioning, power windows, locks and an auto trans, but these options were not normally required to be grouped.

See this for more info on trim levels:

http://www.73-87.com/7387info/7387trimlev.htm

For another data point, my 83 Crew Cab is a Silverado, it's listed on the glove box tag (which matches the VIN) and it has manual windows and locks.

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

in 82 they made some odd silverados, i had a 82 silverado 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 6.2 diesel and a 4 speed, tilt, power window and power locks with no a/c.

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

I have an '85 GMC High Sierra that has power locks, windows, CC and air.
But it has what I would consider the lower end door panels (no pull straps), no door carpet, no headliner or any of the interior roof trim. The kick panels only cover the area around where the vents come through the cab.
Also, The outside trim that wraps around the body is black and it does not have any tailgate trim (the brushed stainless panel).

I just bought an '86 GMC Sierra Classic (the equivalent of a Silverado) and it has air and CC, but no power locks or windows.
I has the high end door panels (with pull straps and a carpeted insert), a fabric headliner, carpet on the lower doors, the kick panels go all the way to the floor, etc.
On the outside it has the chrome trim that wraps around the body and the brushed stainless tailgate panel.

Other people here are more knowledgable than me (like ElGracho) but I think I am pretty correct on the following:
Silverado (Sierra Classic) got you the nicer door panels, carpet standard, headliner standard, chrome trim and tailgate band standard and things like dual headlights standard.
There were also option packages you could buy that included different options like power options, CC, AC, etc.
And I think you could probably order just aboout any different option on a truck that you wanted to pay for.

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

Exactly right, and that's just what the summary of trim levels says on Jeff's site (73-87.com) that Kiilew originally wrote.

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

Mine does have the Silverado package according to the glove box sticker which also matches the VIN. I guess I am still learning about these old trucks. Thanks for the help!

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

BTW, you have a nice looking truck.
My '86 GMC longbed is the same light blue but grey on the bottom.
IMO, I would get a set of 15x8 rally rims first thing. But thats just me. Even if you plan on going aftermarket eventually I would go with the rally's for now. You should be able to find a set cheap enough to swap them.
I have just never reaaly been into the chromed steel rims myself. The raly's seem to class up the trucks.

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

I don't like these rims, but they will do for now. I want a set of torque thrust-d's for it eventually, but may find something else for now. I like the idea of rally's. They would look good on it. Thanks for the compliments. I just lowered the truck today. Will post some pics in the next couple of days when I get them...It will be at the meet in July. The pictures make it look ALOT better than it is. It has alot of scratches, but overall, it looks good. Not bad for $700, eh?

Re: Pics of 82 Silverado

If you want to know what it would look like with rally wheels, take a look at mine.
