What did you get done this weekend? 6/17/07

Didn't see one of these.... It was father's day weekend, so hopefully for some of you dad's out there you got to pull the "not today" card on the honey-do list and get out in the garage and tinker with your truck.

I slaved away in 95 degree sunshine in a parking lot I was only able to work on her on Sunday, but I accomplished a lot. The vintage air install is nearing completion. My biggest hurdle will be painting the dash, I hate hand sanding Once the dash is done, I'm just about there!

I changed a drivers upper a arm shaft and bushings. Ordered a new set of skins for the rear of my 70'. (B.F Goodrich Radial T/A's, 295x50x15.) When they are delivered it's off to the tire shop to get them installed as well doing a front end alignment.

Thats all Folks,

Re: What did you get done this weekend? 6/10/07

My roommate and I got the wiring for the air ride figured out. Hooked it all up on the garage floor to see if anything didn't work, and everything works fine! So another big thing out of the way. Just like getting the engine to run a couple weeks back, knowing the air ride will work makes it easier to keep plugging away at this thing.

Re: What did you get done this weekend? 6/10/07

got to hear my new dual 3" exhaust for the first time. i'm bagged all the way around, but was still able to get the exhaust to the rear bumper.

I also got the front end tore down to get ready for the front bag install. got the upper and lower ball joints out, and the new lowers are in.

hmm, what else... oh, i planned out my rear shock mounts. I'll fab those up next weekend after i finish the front bags.

Re: What did you get done this weekend? 6/17/07

I had a kinda productive weekend.
  • Finally got the HEI working in my buddy's '75 Blazer. I pulled probably 50' of lousy wiring out of it, reterminated 20+ connections and re-routed starter wiring down the back of the engine.
  • Did the initial tune on the HEI curve; still chasing a hard acceleration rattle - planning to try "black" springs to move the mechanical advance curve up.
  • Did a "restart" on my LT1 project now that I have my new pistons and rings. Initial measurement shows that the machine shop oversized the bores...so I likely need to look for a new block :/
  • Sat down and did the "fun" part of both my LT1 rebuild and my son's 355 rebuild - piston measuring :-P
  • Did a little garage and workbench clean-up.

Did a little grinding of welds and sanding of the bed on Saturday, but I was laid up most of the weekend with an infected foot.

Loaded and unloaded junk from my house I'm selling , but I drove the truck !
hung out with my boy .
went to the GM picnic for about 10 minutes after church
played on the rope swing , which is stupid for a 42 year old but it's fun .

Goofy one.

My daughter step on my toe last weekend and split a toenail (I was in flip flops she was in hard heels). Foot wouldn't heal, so that had to leach it (as I call it.. they had to so some minor cutting/surgery )to relieve the pressure and infection. I just could walk on it much until the pressure and infection got under control. WHAT A PAIN!

I wanted to do more work, but couldn't take standing on it.

Got my Moog Poly bushings and new GM swaybar clamps so I can put the
1-1/4" 1-Ton swaybar on "Merlot". I think it might corner a lil bit better. I
currently have no swaybar, no shocks, and on Air bags Improvement?

If you get a chance I would sure like to see a thread with pictures of how you managed to get 3" exhaust over the rear on a bagged truck. I think my rear drop will be around 7" and I was told you cant get 2.5" pipe over the rear with that drop.

Thanks, Mark

Re: What did you get done this weekend? 6/10/07

Well my weekend is actually a week with my shift so in that time I managed to...grind the weld on the inner bed wall section I did last days off.I made up and welded in a new piece to join the inner and outer skins together.Filled in a whole whack of unnecessary holes and seams on both bedsides and did a bit more thinking on the stake pocket filler idea.
Visited the bodyman to see my cab front and centre with obvious work done!!!(JJJJoy)Worked hard in my yard attempting to install an elaborate pond for my wife.Rain messed that up bad so I sat in my garage with the door open, waiting for the rain to stop.....case of beer at my side.
Oh and I bought a truck....not to sure how that happened....I'll need to check my notes.

I did a complete rebuild on my NP 205 transfer case and got my SB 350 tore down. The project is getting closer to rolling chassis. I'm so excited. The next step is to send the engine down to the machine shop and get the th350 rebuilt.

didnt really do as much as i wouldve liked to, for some reason the garage stopped being cleaned so i couldnt really do anything but i did help a buddy figure out why his exhaust was so noisey on his car (hanger fell off) and while he was doing that i finialy got around to bumping the timing up 2* on my truck to make up for the summer heat, hung out with friends and started cleaning out my closets to get ready for a yard sale

it's actually 3" back to the T-arm crossmember, then 2.5" from there back to the bumper. I'll get some pics this weekend and will post them in my build thread. I was surprised he was able to get the exhaust over the rear end, but i guess with 20+ years of experience custom bending pipe, he knew what he was doing

Picked up parts i dropped off last week at "Metalworks" for my 68 SWB.

Cleaning parts the easy way! Very reasonably priced consider how much work it would take to do this = caustic/acid dipped - they look brand new!

Who needs aftermarket with this service!!??. Brand new 39 yearold parts!!!

Trailing arms (painted & installed new poy bushings), Core support (painted) Front crossmember, Grill, Wheel wells front and rear, they all look brand new!

Starting from the ground up....... CLEAN!
