woah... if it's a one ton, it's the HO72... same parts, except for the brakes.
I just assummed...

nope.
The C/20 longhorn would have a one ton frame... but everything else would be C/20 stuff.

The C/30 longhorn would have the one ton parts under it.

same rear as my 72 gmc the truck was an old town truck and it was ordered as a 3/4 ton heavyduty so one ton axles were added at the factory i get my parts through a carquest parts dealer if there is one near you i'll try and find my parts numbers for the pieces you need as i got it all new for mine HEAVYDUTY 3/4 TONS WERE FITTED WITH 1 TON OPTIONS

Longhorn Man it is a C/20 Longhorn.
I also have a 68 Longhorn with the same rearend (H072), so perhaps I should not sell this rearend because I will eventually need drums and brake parts for my 68 Longhorn, and since these parts are hard to find.
Do all Longhorns have the HO52 and HO72 rearends?

a heavy duty??? What option number is that?
Does it have leafs? Does it have the one ton brakes?

Like I said, the 52 and 72 are the SAME thing... however, there were no coil spring one tons, so you can't get an HO72 for a coil truck unless you make it yourself.

What one ton parts was your truck equipped with?

Your 68 would also have the HO52 unless it is a one ton.
Not all longhorns had these Eatons, there were planty that had the Dana.

What is the diameter of the HO72 brake shoes and the width? Also same info for the HO52. Was there just one size for the 72? How about for the HO52?

I think this is one of the most confusing topics on the board - at least for me.

i have no option codes do to the origianal cab was removed in the early 80's and replaced with a 69 chevy cab and now i am changing it back to a 72 gmc now to the other questions yes it is one ton axles as thats what i had to order for brakes and it is leaf springs and this is the stock height will except 35 inch tires with no modifications

I will disagree with Andy on this. The H052 and H072 are the same housing but the drums,brakes and bearings are different between the differentials as a whole.
The 3/4 ton trucks came with either the H052 rear(5200lb cap) or the Dana 60 rear(5500lb cap). Look on the metal plate on the door and the AS BUILT will tell you the max rear axle cap which should tell you the rear end.
The later trucks came with Dana 60's as a 1 ton SRW rear. And later dana 60's came as front ends on the K30 series.
All 1 ton longhorns came with the H072 axle(7200lb cap). When you got into DRW 157" you could have a H072 or a H110(11000lb cap).
So no wonder there is confusion on the rears.

ok, i forgot bearings... good call.
However, the 2 C/20 longhorns I had (one '70 CST/20 Longhorn, and a '72 Cheyenne/20 Longorn for parts) both had the small brakes out back... the52. It'sa hige difference between the massive drums out back in my C/30 I have now.
The photo that bad chevy had (which seems to be missing now) does show the one ton brakes, so this is confusing now, however, I wonder if his had been swapped out at one point being that the truck had been stripped and reasembles at least once before

There were two sizes of brakes for C/20's, the standard size was 11 5/32" by 2 1/2", and the Heavy-Duty brake size was 11 5/32" by 2 3/4". The C/30's had 13" by 2 1/2" if I remember right. The pinion bearings on the HO52 and HO72 are the same and are the roller type, but the side bearings for the hubs and all brake parts are different.
