A couple of bolts and lots of spot welds... takes time and patience. Not overly difficult.

The dash cluster is secured with 5 phillips screws around the perimeter of the bezel. Remove these, as well as unplug dash cluster wiring harness, unscrew speedometer cable from back of speedometer, unplug light switch, wiper switch and ignition switch connectors and remove choke cable bezel nut. After all the attachments are loose, the dash cluster will wiggle out of the opening. Be carefull because it is tight at the steering mast jacket and you may scratch the paint, if you are not carefull.
If you are removing the entire dash, the windshield must be removed, in order to get to the spot welds. The spot welds along the windshield opening must be drilled from the outside. After removing the six bolts, three on each end and the spot welds, you can remove the dash. Obviously, all the other items attached to the dash must be removed, as well. I have used a body seam knife, to separate the unruly spot welds after drilling them out. I use a spot weld cutter, for best results. I hope this information helps and good luck with your project. the complete dash is what i am removing from one of the trucks to another.i guess i need to get a spot weld bit. thanks for all info

You don't have to have a spot weld cutter, however I like them better than using a drill bit because I don't go through both pieces of sheet metal. You drill out the spot welds, but the holes are about 1/4" and you have to back them up when welding the dash back into the other truck. I bought my from www.eastwood.com I know other places sell them, as well. Good luck with your project. Tony |
