Question What about 1 ton DRW 14 bolts?

Will the 14 bolt DRW axle fit our trucks for SRW? Or are the DRW axels wider over all? I am talking about the rear axel, not the dana 60 front.

Re: What about 1 ton DRW 14 bolts?

they make 2 different 14 bolt drw rears.
1. cab & chassis
2. the widest one is from a true dually pickup. the outside tires on both sides will stickout past the side of the truck the width of the tire on both sides. i have both and fixin to start building a c30 157" wb cummind 6bt, spicer 5 spd. od. with a 14 bolt and 3.21 gears, 19.5 tires. aluminum flat bed.
bob in tn.

Re: What about 1 ton DRW 14 bolts?

Bob I look forward to your build.

My 14bolt FF is about 3" narrower than my 44 front as measured at the wheel mounting surfaces. I've been told that it could be from a narrow utility bodied dually. I did have to relocate the spring perches. My 68 rides a little high, and wheel clearance hasn't been a factor.

I'm curious to know EXACTLY where you find a wide 14. I'm assuming it is from something '88 or newer?

I'm a 3.21 fan too- but I doubt my 454 pulls them as good as a Cummins

The 88+ DRW pickups got wide 14 bolts instead of the previous D70HD's. IIRC they are 72" wms-wms. The van (all year) versions are fairly close too, around 70" if memory serves.

One thing to watch for on the newer 14 bolts is if they have slip on drums or not. If you want rear discs, this can open up a whole new can of worms.

Price For Wide 14 Blts Is 200.00 And Up To 1500.00. I Looked For 4 Months To Find A Low Milage Wide 14 Reasonable. Good Luck. Thanks Kw Mech. For Hookin Me Up With The Gear Guy. Do you mean metric studs? Chevy trucks still have the 8x6.5" bolt pattern as far as I know. Ford went to a metric pattern.

Around here, I trip over piles of 14 bolts at every junkyard. The wide DRW truck axles arent as common, but the van 14 bolts are. Must be a regional thing.

Re: What about 1 ton DRW 14 bolts?

drw truck 14bff have shoter perch width and wms. the perches are at 40" and there is not much room to widen them. the also have a 63" wms. use the same axle shafts as the srw but the hub is flanged closer to the center of the axle.

it is infinatly easier to wait and get a srw then to hassle with the drw.
