I'm planning to convert my 67 C-20 to a dually with disc brakes. Has anyone else done it? Ideally I would use a late model one ton diff with disc brakes already on it. If not I have an idea on how to manufacture the disc brake brackets, has anyone else done that?

Sounds like a great idea...I love the dually flatbeds...just too many projects to start another one now!

I know there is at least one vendor around here who makes disc brake kits expressly for the Eaton axle you should have, but generic 14 bolt brackets can be made to work. Even the generic weld on variety would work.

However, that brings up the problem of parking brakes. I haven't tried Cadillac calipers myself, but have heard they leave quite a bit to be desired on a heavy rig. Late model disc rearends have the parking brake shoes in the rotor hat, if you couldn't find the entire late model axle perhaps you could graft the brakes onto your existing axle.

I did it on my '70 C30 carhauler about eight years ago.
I used the stock CC duallie Eaton with duallie hubs, 4x4 F rotors AND backing plates, 4x4 calipers, and a 3.08"-thick (IIRC) spacer to move the rotor inboard from the hub enough for the caliper to clear the duallie wheel. The whole assembly is clamped together with grade8 5/8x6.5" bolts with anti-rotator tabs welded to the bolthead. I tried the Caddy parkbrake calipers, but the won't fit over the rotor(too thick).
In front, I used the BIG rotors and calipers from a 10000lb-tow-capacity 1978 crewcab 2wd C30 and the hydroboost from the same-era truck. I tested a loaded and unloaded panic stop without a proportioning valve and consistently got the fronts to lock before the rears, so I left it unproportioned.
The thing weighs 4100 lbs at each axle unloaded.

For info on the rear discs look up member" Drink Too Many " from Spokane. He is associated with Blackbirds Customs or something like that. They manufacture rear disc kits for lots of vehicles. They have a kit for our trucks.
