Post 4.57s Too Much???

I have a 1970 C-20 Camper Special and it looks like I have 4.57s in the rear. I am making my truck into a nice dropped sport truck and was wondering the 4.57 will get me off the line real good right? and how much worse of the line will 4.11s be? Or what do you guys recomend I put in the back to get the best off the line/top end? BTW its a 350cid with a TH350 tranny. Thanks for the help

IMO,the best all around gear(based on about a 28" tall tire ),is a 3.73. I have 1/2 ton parts under the longhorn,& run a 275/60/15 tire(28" tall). My 12 bolt has 4.10 richmond coggs. The combo is a lot of fun,but I dont reccomend a lot of long road trips, rpm @ 60 is 3000-3100. I can crank it up to 125,but am runnin 6200-6300 at that speed.......69 longhorn.

youe not gonna want ot use that 3/4 topn rear for pewrformance though, gonna want a smaller rear like a dana axle or 13 bolt or 8 3/4 chrysler or something thats not a full floater, you would have to build one hell of a hi revving engine for use with 4.57 gears, youll be redlining all over the place, steel crank hi duration cam, lots of stall, lots of $$$$$$$

I have the eaton 4.57 in my 3/4 ton. I all you want to do is smoke some tires, it's great. If you want to go over 65, it sucks. I'm in the process of converting a newer 3.73 posi to fit my suspension.

I'd agree with 69 longhorn 3:73 would be the best compromise.

I have a BB with 3.73 gears and I must advise you not to go with anything bigger unless you are sporting tall tires or have a 700R4 or equivelant if you plan on making this a daily driver. As far as getting off the line it is awesome. I can burn them in 1st and lay a heavy scratch in 2nd but like mentioned in earlier replies you will be rev'n the heck out of it when you get to highway speeds. At 65 MPH I am at 3900-4000 RPM's. If you got the cash throw in a new tranny with O/D then you will have the best of both worlds :> )
