what type of fuel pump are you running?

my truck bogs down bad when i give it gas.. i have a permantly in-line fuel pressure gauge, reads 10PSI key on engine off, 9 psi idle, and drops as low as 5 psi when i start opening the throttle.. stupid Crapa (napa) "10-14 psi" fuel pump

engine specs are:
98 bottem end, stock pistons and rings with 44K miles, crank turned .010/.010, new mains and rods, new t-chain, ported and polished 89 TBI truck heads, stainless steel valves, intake ported, LT1 hydro roller cam, stock ram horns, stock 1990 350 ECM, msd cap, coil, rotor, taylor wires, 2 1/4 exhaust

also has new o2 sensor, and plugs

Re: question for the TBI conversion guys

You can't use a cheapo parts store pump. Holley makes an inline just for this type of application, they are pricey. It needs to be mounted as low & close to the tank as possible. An in- tank pump would be best. Electric pumps don't like to suck, they are made to push.

Re: question for the TBI conversion guys

ive got mine mounted on the frame right where the original rubber line hooks onto the factory carb line.. its about as low and far back to the tank as i can possibly get it..

do you know if Summit carries the fuel pump?

Re: question for the TBI conversion guys

Here's the one I've used before. I think I got it from Summit or Jegs.

Re: question for the TBI conversion guys

have you thought about plumbing up two cheap-o pumps in parallel with check valves? that way when one fails you can still limp home.

Re: question for the TBI conversion guys

I went fuel cell with an internal factory pump, it's worked great from day one.

Did the pump fail over time or was it that way from the beginning with the cheaper pump?

Re: question for the TBI conversion guys

that way from the beginning
the reason for all the new parts is because its a new rebuild.. its only been running about a month or two. not drove it down the road yet, but ive jerked around alot of junkers in the feild with it its a powerhouse at idle when it has halfway decent fuel pressure

Re: question for the TBI conversion guys

Frame mount pump for an 80's Ford P/U with Dual tanks. Common part that you can get at the parts store if it dies. Mine is frame mounted with my tank behind the seat (C10), so it's gravity fed by the tank. I tried in-tank pumps, but without any baffles in the tank, I kept smokin' 'em.
Hope this helps.
