502

just wondering if anyone knows if a 502 with a weind 6-71 supercharger with 2 holley 650's and a 1 1/2 inch air cleaner would fit under the hood of a '69 or would i need to put in a 2 inch cowl induction hood? drop motor mounts or whatever as long as i know if it will fit or not.thx

Re: 502

I have a very good feeling that this guy would know, bskylerj is his moniker on this site.

you should check out some of his post's on his truck, it's a big block with a super charger, well over 700HP I think now.

Re: 502

uuhh thats a 6-71 super. the top plates are all about the same thickness. 1-1/8 to 1-1/2" thick.

some motor drop, you will need to gut your engine bay, fab a skiin cross and make all new mounts about 6-7 lower in the frame.

if you switch to a 144-177 weiand or b&m single carb it will fit with a small 2-3" cowl, they are only half as tall as a 6-71.

Yah, I know a guy that put a small weind in 70 4x4, and it stuck out of the hood 3inch or so on a small block.

Re: 502

I think the compression on the zz502 may be too high for a supercharger. Not sure

Re: 502

just build a 572 from a 454 and save time and money. the rotating assembly can be had for under 2 grand. just a suggestion. i like stroked big blocks. i have a stroked bbf ( 557ci ) in a 4000 lb car that runs consistent 11 sec passes. give me torque and you can have horsepower.

Re: 502

Edelbrock just came out with a small blower, looks good. As far as lowering the motor, my big block is only 1/2 inch from the x member now and major cutting would be needed to drop it more than 1 inch

Re: 502

You have a problem, to make boost on a 502 without excesive intake air temp requires a bigger blower than a 6 71 but you dont want it sticking up. You will not get the best of both worlds. I believe that what you are trying to do is not realistic.

Re: 502

a stock 502/502 should run in the 11s without a blower if the car doesnt weigh 4500 lbs. You need to figure out what your goal is for the motor and then come up with a combo that works. Spinning a little blower to make 5 lbs of boost on a 502 will heat the air up alot and detonation and general undrivability on the street will occur.

Re: 502

man i hope it has a good warranty lol. i dynoed it at home on a dyno program i have it said a supercharged 502 will overheat but with the right fan and rad combo it should run 170 which is overbut acceptable.mostly this truck will be going to white rock, around town on a cruise and up to ashcroft. it is all open road mostly so over heating is not a factor.and for detonation im not gonna be pushing this motor to the limit. but i will consult my dads friend he is an engine builder and had made some of the sickest stuff out there but i will consult him first.

Re: 502

according to weiand- run 4 lbs of boost will give u what u need and anything above is certain detonation. i measured it all out drop the motor 2" cut that front crossmember a bit and get a 3" cowl u will have 1" clearance.
