Brake Parts Question

Does anyone know of a good source for brake parts for GM 11 inch brakes? (GM 1/2 tons series) I'm looking for 2 (L & R) brake bars (thats the bar that goes between the two brake shoes with the coiled spring on one end) and 2 (L & R) parking brake plates (that's the plate that the parking brake cable connects to). I am looking to replace the ones I have because they are pretty deeply corroded. This whole brake fiasco started a couple of months ago while I was rebuilding my differential, and someone cleaned up the shop and accidentally threw out my brake parts that were soaking in solvent. I did happen to find these parts used.... but once I cleaned them up in a sandblaster they were only marginal. If someone has these parts (that are in good condition) or knows of a source where I could get them please message me. As for the rest of the parts, everything is new. And none of the regulars (LMC, Chevy Duty, GMCPauls, etc.) carry these two particular parts. Thanks, TJ

All I can suggest is try your local Chev/GM dealer, of course, you will end up paying a ridiculous amount of money. Another option is to hit the old boneyard (again) and look for some in better condition.

You can wish in one hand and crap in the other.
See which one gets filled first.

I'm with Southpa. Back to the boneyards. Perserverance will help you find suitable parts. I saw plenty of used-but-good brake guts at my favorite yard. The dealers will take you to the cleaners. That spring may be included in a spring kit from your local autoparts store.

Brake parts

I doubt that the parts are available any longer at the dealer, I was told that several of the parts were discontinued several years ago.
Your probably right about the salvage yards, it's just finding a set that are not all corroded and pitted. I was hoping maybe someone on the board might have a good set to sell. TJ

I saw those bars or whatever they are called in the HELP section at a local auto parts store. They probably have the other parts you asked about too. You'd be surprised what you can find there.

I work for OReilly Auto Parts and you'd be amazed at what you can buy for these trucks today. I did my rear drums last weekend and am also missing that bar that goes between the shoes... i believe its called a Strut Rod? Anyway, i ordered it new, unfortunately im going to hafta find the coiled spring in a boneyard or a source on here. We also can get new tail lenses through a company called Glo Brite. Anyway, thats my bit of info for today, good luck with that bar and coiled spring for it!

I found the springs here in Virginia from a place called Fairfax Auto Parts, which is similar to a NAPA. If I remember correctly, 77 and newer trucks used the same spring..... but the spring was not available at the Chevy dealer, it had been discontinued. Go figure. If someone could ever assemble a complete wheel overhaul kit for these trucks they might sell quite a few.....
