Proper location of temp sender?

'72 Chev 350. I have my temp sender in the intake manifold at the moment. Does it need to be in the head? The gauge is working but goes all the way to hot after a couple minutes of running and driving, but the engine isn't that hot I don't think and the radiator cap doesn't open and overflow...

Re: Proper location of temp sender?

All my original trucks had them in the driverside head.

Re: Proper location of temp sender?

Well as OLDCHEV4X4 stated in the head is the stock location on most applications.

As for you I would say there is something amiss some where.

As the head will/should give you a higher reading not lower, as this is where all the action is going on.

BTW Buy a new cap.

Re: Proper location of temp sender?

Okay I will try a new radiator cap... maybe hook up a mechanical temp gauge.
