Console for radio/gauges
I am playing around with the idea of making a diamond plate console to house my radio and extra guages. I really do not want to cut my dash and was thinking of something to really set off my cab. Has anyone done something similar and give me some tips I could use? I have a low hump, bench seat, and colum shift so there is plenty of room for the thing. I was also thinking of making some kind of lockable compartment for valubles on it and maybe some coaster slots? Any thoughts?

Re: Console for radio/gauges
I've seen polished alluminum diamond plate used as door panels. Looked pretty awsome IMO. I had pics somewhere, but haven't seen them in ages (even when i just looked for them)

Re: Console for radio/gauges
Well I was actually thinking of doing my door panels in diamond plate as well as my glove box and my original three hole gauge panel. I just think it would look awesome.

Re: Console for radio/gauges
I would place rubber on the back side to keep it from rattling real bad.

Re: Console for radio/gauges
Ok, I played around with Google Sketchup and this is what I came up with. I havnt put the sides in yet so it is easier to see. The three holes on the top are for gauges and the rectangle in the middle is for a audio system. Obviously the two large holes are for drinks.

Maybe you could put speakers in the sides if it wouldn't make them too close together. I don't know anything about audio stuff so maybe I'm all wet.... LockDoc

Re: Console for radio/gauges
I was thinking of that or piping out my ac thru some louvers since the console could block my underdash vent.

Re: Console for radio/gauges
i like your idea but you should rethink gauge placement to somewhere that you'll be able to see them

Re: Console for radio/gauges
Maybe more off an angle on the guage lane? I really want to keep my three hole and dont want a hanger off the dash

Re: Console for radio/gauges
One other thing I thought about with this setup. I could also put an LCD screen for DVD in the space near the cup holders if I wanted to.

Re: Console for radio/gauges
That looks really great Brak. Is the top slot for a deck? If so it looks a little shallow, but other than that I love it. Can I steal it from you?

Re: Console for radio/gauges
braks brings the gauges more out from under the dash and the angle is alot better for seeing the gauges

Re: Console for radio/gauges
here is my console....I won't be using it any more, but may give you some ideas
Originally I was going to put at least a trans temp gauge in the panel below the A/C controls but never got to it. Also, the part you can't see between the bucket seats houses a 10" sub and amp. Its kind contoured like the "waterfall" in the corvette 'verts. |

Re: Console for radio/gauges
Random guy,I would also suggest you move the drink holders, maybe closer to the seat for easier reach. Then the extra space could be boxed and used as a lock-up.
